He’s just talking about his dream of a standard, and I’m telling him theoretically and technically it’s not far away. In practice it is different, but it’s not complete fantasy.
In terms of fitting millions of users into your spectrum, good luck to Verizon and AT&T.

Yes, they are running out of bandwidth (spectrum) and their customer base is growing, which is why unlimited data is not sustainable, unless they can acquire/lease much more spectrum (they being Verizon and ATT). Sprint can still offer unlimited because they have a smaller user base, and a very very large amount of available spectrum (from Clearwire).

The only way they could do this is to acquire both Sprint & Clearwire. Unlikely because of the mess of Android and non iphone customers that already exist on the network. Or they could pay to lease the spectrum from them, but that doesnt seem to be something Apple would do.

TD LTE is the closest thing to a global standard since thats what all of Asia is moving to, and what Clearwire and Sprint will eventually be on. Clearwire’s 20×20 spectrum also does support 1GB/s. If Verizon/ATT somehow are allowed to lease from Clearwire too, then we’d basically all be on the same LTE standard (not likely since Sprint owns 50% of Clear).

In a couple years Sprint will be the only carrier with access to a fat 20×20 TD LTE pipe, so they’ll be the only carrier to offer a 1GB/s network with unlimited data. Verizon/ATT can only max out at 4×4 FD LTE, unless Clear cuts a deal with them (But since Sprint owns half of Clear, they’ll also reap the benefit of any spectrum sharing deal).

yup #1 reason why people switched off Sprint was the iPhone.

I’m interested to know if anyone is using a Republic Wireless phone here in the states and how their experience is. I know they’ll beat everyone with their $19/mo unlimited min/txt/0capdata no contract.

Don’t forget that laser 3d printers can print using metal ingredients as well. In the future I can see it useful for printing that 20 years-out-of-production Campagnolo custom stem for your vintage bike or the most recently released design of that super-efficient GPU heatsink.
