If Google could add full featured or near full featured CS/CC competitors to Drive, I would love them forever. I don’t think HTML5 and WebGL are that powerful, though
Comment
Yeah, I use both Office and Drive fairly regularly, and Office has best feature set, but for pure convenience (and also sharing), I try to use Drive when I can
Comment
Personally, I use Drive when it fits the bill. The cloud functionality, sharing, plus a lot of featues I need that Word Web App doesn’t have (things like the ruler), all make it worthwhile. If I need to do half decent spreadsheet work, that’s when I’ll transition into full Office. So I use Drive when I can, and Office when I need. They’re both great products

Steve was good at taking an idea, usually a niche product, and making it great and into a huge mass market thing. Google used to be at a loss in the design department, but now I think they can hold their own, and hopefully, between them and Microsoft, we’ll see some great things in the next few years

Both Microsoft and Google are doing some pretty crazy things. I remember seeing that video from last year where Josh toured the Microsoft facilities. We’ve already seen the Kinect come out of there, hoping to see some other stuff soon.

I still don’t think you can completely vindicate Microsoft from blame either, though. Honestly, the part that surprised me the most was the downloading of videos. That is such a clear violation of Google’s TOS, that it only seems like they were looking for trouble.

Wow, just saw that article. I think I’ll wait to see what Google’s response is to pass any more judgement, but assuming Microsoft’s isn’t playing with words here, Google could really be at fault.

Google is ACTIVELY blocking Microsoft from developing a full featured YouTube app.

because Google knows that the MS app can’t serve ads without Google’s help
I’ve never heard that before. I will come full circle and start defending Microsoft if you can prove that to me. And besides, in the app, there is an option to download video. I haven’t used the app myself, as I don’t have a Windows Phone anymore, but in the Cease and Desist letter, that was mentioned as another part. I’m sorry, but Microsoft should at least look at the YouTube TOS before developing a feature like that. If Google hadn’t come down on Microsoft, then you know certain affiliated parties like the music labels would have come down on Google.

It’s hard for me to imagine that Google writes all the YouTube apps for the myriad systems YouTube is delivered to: pretty much all set top boxes (Roku excluded), the PS Vita, the PS3, and even the Xbox 360. Again, I could be wrong, but I think Microsoft can develop a YouTube app that serves ads and doesn’t allow downloading. Microsoft never said it couldn’t; rather, they said they wanted specific metadata that Google withholds (again, not saying that that is necessarily the right thing to do).
And in respects to that article, I think it jumps to quite a few conclusions, that, while not totally unfounded, do seem to ignore part of the equation.

I absolutely think that Google should make an app for Microsoft, but importunately business is business, and Google probably doesn’t think the rewards for making a Windows Phone Youtube app are worth the investment.

I’m not sure about this, but there is a clear API for Youtube that everyone uses (including Microsoft with its Xbox app), and the fact that Microsoft made an app that not only doesn’t have ads, but allows users to download a video (of which Google would get huge flack from record labels), makes this move from Microsoft somewhat immature.
