Bigger question is why are they dying in the first place. That is where the effort needs to be so we can rectify that.

Exactly, there is zero need to have server access unless you are totally inept at what you are doing.
Prism is what is used to split the light in the fiber to create an optical tap on a switch or router.
Once you have all source and destination IP’s you can backwards reassemble everything.
Some things will of course take more time like brute force decode some encrypted traffic but to get usable information isn’t that time consuming.
Most traffic is already defined with RFC’s which are public so all you have to do is to strip out the payload and source/dest info and store it so you can go back and decode it depending on what the traffic is.
This is not something average Joe deals with but I encounter it daily in my line of work

You guys are over complicating things. Most protocols are defined in RFC’s which are public and to reverse engineer most protocols is fairly simple.
There is no need for an API, the network protocol provides the data and you can either clear text store, decode according to a RFC spec or brute force decrypt.
And as far as storing this data it’s not that difficult. Deduplication of data that is repetitive would cut the amount actually stored by roughly 80-90% depending on traffic type.

This can easily be achieved without a single API, just add a tap on the back bone router and you have free access to all the data being routed to and from any service.
