I enjoyed STID, my only little beef is that its Star Trek 2 with a Khan villain… its not that I didn’t like their ‘homage’ or reinvention of specific moments of ST2:WOK, its that I don’t think any of it should have been at all.
At the same time though… its IS an all-new story that we haven’t seen before, despite those ‘homage’ moments. Space Seed never happened in this timeline, and thus this really isn’t Wrath of Khan in any way. I just really would have liked to have seen a sequel that was like the first movie, one that didn’t really rely on mining Trek history. I mean, with Vulcan destroyed and more than likely fallout with the Romulans after Nero, it would seem like there would be an all-new story to tell here.
Also, there was no reason for an Old Spock. Quinto’s Spock would have been so much better if he just came to all his conclusions on his own.

Also… since the Eugenics Wars and outlawed augments were such a HUGE part of Star Trek’s Earth’s history, I think it would have been a little better if Kirk and McCoy shat themselves a little more when they find out who he is. do people in the 23rd century not have to take History classes or something?
Like, “You’re Khan? As in… the guy who ruled an entire continent 300 years ago? Holy shit!”.
Speaking of holy shits… anyone count how many times the word ‘shit’ was used? lol. It doesn’t bug me, but it seemed kind of noticable.

I agree, a really good twist would have been to just kill Khan and all the augments completely. McCoy could have just NOT wasted a WHOLE vial of Khan’s blood on a tribble and used it to heal Kirk, which they should have just done as he was DYING, not after he ‘died’.

Yes, all that is obvious, but that’s not what Strand is really questioning. The part of the plan that make little to no sense was why were all the augments hidden in the torpedoes? Admiral Marcus set himself up for failure with a master plan that made no sense in that regards, because it was the threat of Khan’s people dying that made him stop and reveal the truth to Kirk, et al.
Otherwise, Weller’s character could easily have just murdered all 72 augments, sent the Enterprise w/ regular warheads and still had the plan play out. Even when Kirk came to his senses to try to capture Khan rather than launch warheads, Khan would have had NO reason to fight the Klingons and save the crew in those scenes. The only reason he did was so he could get aboard the Enterprise and save his people.
However, the answer to all of that is simply, its just a movie. lol.

But a $350 device with some mighty specific requirements is hardly the ONLY solution to this “problem” of connecting a PC to an HDTV.
Look, I know that some people have some odd or uber-specific issues that create brick walls for them, but it isn’t a lack of options for those people, its their lack of changing the status quo to take advantage of those options. ‘Unwilling’ means throwing money at the ‘problem’. You got the dough to cook, then more power to you. But to trying to say there is no other solution is a disservice to other PC gamers, and misleading and costly for them.
Valve/Steam didn’t create Big Picture Mode to make people buy $350 accessories… they made it to change the way people think about home computing and PC gaming. With smartphones, tablets and laptops taking over, the need to have one’s PC in a dungeon or shoved in the corner of the room on a cheap computer desk is old hat. The PC’s place is the CENTER of the home entertainment center, especially as the home automation options grow as well. It boggles my mind that its taking so long for people to figure this out.
And before we mention cost… let’s go over it one more time: The Shield is a $350 device. You could buy a 2nd PC or cheap laptop for not much more to do whatever it is you do in the ‘computer room’, and then dedicate your gaming rig to the big screen.

I think this is the key to it all really. Ok, so Company X is expected to make money and find ways to make money… thats all well and good and very reasonable. Nothing wrong with that. But there’s got to be trade off, incentives to consumers for the perceived ‘cons’ that come with those changes.
When you’re talking about [arguably] ‘less’ content, higher prices, additional cost for ‘extra’ content, more restrictions AND to throw a horrendous customer care/service experience on top of all that…then those games better be the end-all be-all of games, because there’s no other merit to fall back on.

I guess I come from a place of ‘what you don’t know can’t hurt you’.
I went from a G1 to an HD2 to a Dell Venue Pro… so the Lumia 920 is business as usual as far as weight/heft.

Very true… but shouldn’t you heed your own words? Who wants Apple and Google to dominate the mobile space like MS dominated the home PC industry?
Ignoring the fanboys, I think what everyone really wants is just to see the field level out a little more. How many years did it take for accessory companies to FINALLY start making accessories for Android devices? I didn’t have fancy docks and cool shit for my old G1… thanks to Apple.
At the same time, you can’t argue with popularity, but it would be nice to have it even out a little. Android’s done a good job catching up (and possibly surpassing) Apple, but all we’ve done is traded Godzilla for King Kong. We need some Mecha-Godzilla and Mothra in the mix.
