That’s the problem with anyone who complains about it. If you’re going to talk SMS, almost every phone has its own fragmented approach. It got better for awhile, then it got broken again. It doesn’t help that some phones use MMS to send a text because there’s more room to send more information.
The only standards that work perfectly at IRC and Email because they’re built into the backbone of the internet. But they also fall behind the times because they have to adapt slowly along with web standards. That’s unfortunate, but a reality.
Personally, I just want all my friends to be on one messaging app, and with people using iPhones they have to SMS me via GVoice. Which is a nice fallback. I think my real disappointment with Hangouts is that it can’t “default” to SMS. I don’t envy much from an iPhone, but the iMessage SMS fallback feature is one of the things that Apple got right. One app that will intelligently figure out how to message my friends. I wish SMS and XMPP were both part of that.
In the mean time, I’m going to have a couple more people using Talk/Hangouts. Group conversations and unified video chat will be nice. I can text my friends on BlackBerry phones. And I can always e-mail a file to someone. Alternatively, I can upload an image to G+ or Imgur and just send it to them. I have options.

We’ve all been worried about that for a year or so, too. Especially considering Google+ makes a fine blogging platform on its own, but could benefit from some of the formatting and publishers tools Blogger offers. Merging them makes sense.
And yet Blogger is one of the most updated Google services, and has probably seen more Google+ features plugged into it than the other way around. Perplexing, to say the least.

It was worth it for the “No, it’s not a real network, but neither is NBC” line.

Which is hilarious, because the developer (who does jailbreak iPhones, or did) doesn’t seem to understand the different between rooting, a fastboot unlock, etc. Or that he’s accomplished nothing of note.
