Quarlow, we understand your frustration. However, The Verge has a high-quality staff full of talented writers, developers and designers. Advertising is our lifeblood and without it, we would not be able to provide such an amazing array of content every day. There is give and take with everything in life, and ads are one of them. We understand your position but we disagree vehemently that the site’s quality has gone downhill – just one look at the features section should be more than enough to convince you otherwise.

Ads are bought in advance and companies buy certain time periods to run their advertising.

These are rich, high quality ads that do not actually interfere with your experience. You won’t see pop-ups here. Support the sites you love.

Makes sense. Basically using the Xbox 360 strategy and it should work nicely.

Ideally you’d watch it in our own video player, but I imagine it will be on Youtube soon!

I think we do a pretty good job of developing awesome websites, fixing bugs, etc. Only so many folks on the team! Glad you expect so much out of us :)

Possibly, but otherwise no cookie can be set to mark that you’ve “seen” an ad.
Comment
Completely agreed. As Justin mentioned later on in this thread, this is an ad we do not wish to run and will have it fixed.

You can no longer see it if you scroll past it. The ultimate minimization.

It wasn’t a permanent ad, but it would be swell to whitelist sites you love in ABP.

I think it’s clear that we do accept constructive criticism, but a lot of this thread is not particularly constructive. Rest assured we take these thoughts into consideration as the sales and advertising teams develop new advertising campaigns.

If you scroll past it, that’s the same as minimizing.

Hey, Polygon has an “All News” hub, but it doesn’t encompass all the stories on the site in a chronological order — just news. We did just launch a pretty cool sidebar though that shows stories in chronological order (sorted by their hub).

Honestly, this is not constructive. You’re on an ever-evolving website that is finding its voice through new avenues. Enjoy it, don’t deride it.

I believe he shared the answer because that is the official answer from the EIC of the site. Calling it tripe and talking down about the site is not a good way to voice your concerns effectively.
