“GAMING” sites speculate, yes. But, Verge is not just a gaming site. They release, roughly, 5-6 gaming articles a day. There is more than enough real, tangible, solid gaming news in one day to fill up 6 articles. Sites like Kotaku, Joystiq, and even Polygon speculate, because all they post is gaming news, and they need enough content to justify a visit to their site each day (with each one creating about 20-30 articles a day).
Not sure how much more clear I could have been about my critique of Verge spending small, valuable gaming news space with speculation.
In an industry chock full o’ news, it’s very easy to NOT speculate. If Verge is going to cover games ever so briefly each day, I think they could find more meaningful articles to write.
I think you’re reaching here, Verge. I believe what he means by, “a bizarre twist of fate,” is that he left his sweet gig with MS (Lionhead) to create 22cans, and the first pay-out from his new venture would appear the same day as his previous employer makes their next big announcement.
