Schmidt also said that Android will be #1 platform for developers, and yet even now iOS is almost 3/4 of all mobile application sales.
While total applications download count for Android will soon top that of for iOS, only small portion of those downloads are buys.
One of the reasons for that is that most of Android phone users do not use them as smartphones — because they did not really want a smartphone, they just bough it instead of feature phone that they can not already buy since Samsung and the likes replace those devices with smartphones.
This is the same reason why web usage statistics is still vastly in favour of iOS. And while web usage for Android will grow and will probably eventually top iOS’ share — though not soon — Android application sales will drag behind iOS for years.

Apple did not fix the prices, Amazon did. They wanted books to be sold at $9.99 even if publishers would actually prefer a book to cost $4.99. Apple offered agency model, where only publishers set the price, not the seller (like Apple).

There is/was no “price floor”; publishers are absolutely in control of the price they want to set on iBook Store. This is key difference from Amazon, which fixes prices.

I never said that Amazon monopoly is necessary illegal, but the company did fix the prices. Basically all of the books were selling for $9.99 even if publishers would rather sell them $4.99.

Besides, Amazon basically had monopoly on the market, and to break to the market, there was no other way than to discuss agency model. This is how you could secure all the biggest publishing houses to bank-in into the new venture which does not even exist yet and generates nothing for them, so they have no incentive to enter it whatsoever. This this whole thing is result of Amazon having factual monopoly leverage over publishing houses.
In the end, some books would be cheaper than $9.99, while others would be pricier than that.
