Both an iPhone and a MacBook Air costs the best part of $1000, so they’re still expensive purchases, not just cheap fashion accessories.
You say you bought your devices as you considered them the best in class. Why are you so sure the other you refer to didn’t do the same? This is an odd comment.

It’s hard to believe any article that seems to go along with idea the iRadio is scheduled to launch at WWDC, a developers conference. It would overshadow any iOS7 feature news and wouldn’t be available immediately if it was (somehow) iOS7 related. They need to get better sources.

That’s a pretty interesting point. It’s definitely one for the more engaged user. Will be infesting to see the take up on this.

Why would WWDC be the launch date for such an unrelated feature? Seems like The Verge are being overly dramatic for the sake of a good story.

Has anyone got an idea of how long until this rolls out? These territories already have streaming deals in place so maybe it’s just a matter of weeks.

Streaming by it’s very nature is anti lock-in. People don’t give a shit enough to not drop one service for another. First to market really doesn’t matter much, unless you need to overcome great mindshare (not an issue for iTunes or any service with an iName).
Not to mention (and i find it hard to believe this as i’m writing), this new service from Google, good looking as it is, is not global. This is crazy. Google have the ££ and the clout to make this shit happen, and they’re really not flexing their muscles.
Honestly, who out of all the player in the game now, and rumoured to be joining is going to make it to truly global (e.g. all that would be applicable) reach with a streaming music service? I say it’s between Google and Apple, both of which are just leaving the port in this sea.

Downloads – You OWN the license forever
Streaming – You RENT the license for a limited period.
To the end user, they’re very different offers even if the music sounds the same.

They give The Verge access, the make great products, the coverage (and sometimes it is fawning) is unsurprising. The Verge is the natural fanboy to a company like Google as it should be. It produces things of fantasy (Glass / Driverless Cars) and things that many just can’t live without (Maps, Gmail).
They’re kind of drug pushers for tech fiends.

…and MS were duly rewarded for opening the gates to The Verge. The editorial and videos around the trip(s) were great. All parties benefited.
It’s PR 101. Give a little to get a little in return.
Unless you go the very tricky Apple route of give nothing but the air of brilliance – hope that natural curiosity prevails and you become a media darling, where even the weakest of rumours (or baseless speculation) produces mountains of editorial.

The S3 dropped down in price pretty quickly, within 6 months a £200 + 24 month contract went down to Free on contract. That’s a quick price drop, though not a fire-sale.

The S3 took 21 days? That would be exactly the same rate of sales as the S4.

This has been the norm in retail for over a decade (probably a lot more). Often the items will go back to the OEN and they’ll send them on to a fire sale specialist at a reduced price or to a developing world, out of sight. At worst it ends up as landfill.
Which is why the shipped versus sold argument does have merit. Otherwise the Playbook was highly successful and that fire sale and write-down never happened.

No, but I would be interested to know how many devices it is possible (for any OEM) to have sitting in the channel?
How many stores carry the device? How many devices per store is normal to carry? It probably does add up to healthy figure.
I couldn’t even guess. Anyone?

It sees pretty much the same as the competitors. Nothing that exciting. Google are one of few companies that could really have shaken things up. Kind of disappointed.

Sounds like they’re milking the high-demand and raking in some extra money. Can’t really blame them. The devices that’ll help TMob’s bottom line (and their new business plan) are few and far between.
They know the real sell-though of stock and are upping their £££. Fair play.
