I am everyday, i manage my companies cell phone account so in charge of distributing devices.
I’d be rich if i get $$ for all the times i’ve been ask “when can i upgrade my device? can i get an iphone? can i get a samsung?”
We bought a bunch of Torch 9810s and 9900 Bolds in late 2011. We actually gave a choice to 650 employees to start off on which device they wanted. All of them were coming from a Curve 9300 or Bold 9700. 40% of the users ended up picking an iPhones or Android. The % would of been probably 80% until many found out they had to pay for the device and pay us a monthly deduction to use an iPhone. We knew iphone users will abuse their data and messaging. Once they found that out the company wouldn’t pay, they took the free blackberry.
After, many of the people that picked free blackberry changed their mind and wanted to pay, i said too late..haha.. So they were stuck with their free BB. All the time, i get asked when they can upgrade, i say end of 2013, they then get sad. haha…pretty funny.
and soon after, people were wanting out. The ones that did want to stay are not very tech savy.

The wording probably could be changed to say something like “Many Blackberry users have seen their friends shift to other platforms YEARS AGO”

Nothing BBM was popular back then when the userbase was big, especially in corporate. Everybody in corporate can contact their COIs or colleagues for free with BBM.
THis was when it was blackberry and nobody else really, so they dominated the market.
Fast forward to now, there are so many options and the userbase collapsed over the years, there is nothing special about BBM, only boyhood memories when the had blackberries in the mid 2000s with no other alternative.

This isn’t allowing anything, people are already switching out of the BB platform and it isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
If bb wants to save their bbm, they need to do this, it is a no brainer. BBM isn’t a stand alone feature that is a big factor in people switching to the bb platform. There really isn’t much reason to get it exclusive to BB at this point.

Im not sure who is saying these things, but i have never heard anything say they were waiting for BBM to go multi-platform.
Once they got off BB, they moved on. Especially at work.

on wp8, notifications have improved, but still dont get some notifications at times. Luckly i dont use skype video calls too much, but it needs to be integrated int he OS instead of a dumb app.
Since we are discussing BBM which is messaging. Skype messaging when you message to one individual seems to work fine now, but it didnt for awhile. So that is ok.
What completely sucks is the group messaging, there is no notificatino for group messaging and the messaging does not sync to all platforms properly. So if a new message comes in a group chat, i will not get a notificaiton for it nor will my chat box get updated on my phone. It only updates on my RT or my windows 8 version, then it will update on my phone.
So essentially, no real time group chat allowed on skype for wp8. It is basically a joke. Skype should work just like whatsapp or any messaging platform, but it doesn’t.

Yes they are competitors, but different.
BB and Windows pretty much concede to iOS and Android for now because they both control the market. BB and Windows are competing for the 3rd spot and doesn’t make sense for BB to support windows at this point until they know they have full control of the 3rd spot. Even then, i dont think bbm would go to windows.
MS released skype to bb10, MS has a big picture view for the skype platform, too bad the experience sucks on phones.

Odd to me that people who used BB years and years ago when they had marketshare still try to hold on to what they use to know. BBM was successful because a lot of people had blackberries and lot of corporation used blackberries, so there was a large userbase for free messaging. It only worked due to the large amount of users.
Remember at this point in time, the smartphone industry was in infancy and BB was there all by themselves. Then iPhone came out, then android and a number of messaging platforms came out and as BB users migrated to iPhones/androids, BBM became irrelevant. BBM is not what drives people to use blackberries, the large userbase of blackberry drove the success of BBM, common sense.
Today, the market share of bb is what? 5%? BBMs relevancy is pretty insignificant and putting these on other platforms is not going to help. Whatsapp/Viber holds the crown for now.
Skype should be the leader, but Microsoft are being fucktards with skype.
The common theme of all bb talk is how they loved our they were addicted to bb keypads and bbm, they just want to hold onto that past experience. THat is why BB is struggling, they tried to hold onto the past.

The good thing is, Skype doesn’t drain battery anymore like it once did when it would get stuck in a loop i believe. calls/vids wouldn’t come in and text messages would come in.
I believe most of those issues have been resolved, still though, skype i think still sucks on wp8 and MS is missing a huge opportunity to have one platform for texting/calls/video chat It is almost laughable how bad skype is on wp8. THis needs to be in the OS not as a seperate app, the separate app seems to be a shortcut for them right now, but not sure if they are looking into integrating skype into the OS all together like how facetime is with iOS.
Whatsapp is a battery killer on wp8, it worked fine on wp7 though, not sure why its so bad with wp8, i wanted to replace with skype. While text messaging notifications come in for one on one i think ok for the most part, the really stupid thing is that group test doesn’t work at all. You will never get a notification when a next comes in in a group chat because it doesn’t allow which is absurd. Then, you can not see new messages until hours and hours later and sometimes never. It isn’t until i use skype on my RT when the new messagse show up on my wp8 phone. Just an embarrassment by MS and the Skype team on this OS.

Nintendo can’t get anymore stupid, well, maybe they can. Phone apps on a console? It works fine maybe if its liek an xbox arcade type game, but if you dont have good compelling games and not just your milked franchises kids games, goodbye nintendo. We’ll wait for your next dumb gimmicky console.

Horrid pricing for the RT, RT out of the box when i got it didnt perform well and was really sluggish. I had to do a lot of tweaks to get it performance respectable, but still it is slow generally. Anybody that is not tech savy will hate it becasuet the experience out of the box is not pleasant.
