I waited before with iOS, I can wait again. WP has way more apps than the iPhone did when I got one. That wasn’t that long ago.

I hope this will spark a new wave of games that don’t put all the effects at the wrong depth and break the 3D.

The sales just have to out-accelerate the market, not outsell the competition necessarily.

Maybe that is likely, but what if it doesn’t? Any port in a storm, I say. Precursor’s the only studio even trying to make a new Eternal Darkness game, and thus for all their issues have the best shot at it. I’d pledge more if I thought the new game was a sure thing, but even a small chance is worth something to me since the payoff of success would be huge.

I was counting bad games and didn’t know about blood omen. There are many good RE games, although most were not as good as ED in my opinion. I just meant there hasn’t been a bad Eternal Darkness game yet. But it’s not really a valid comparison so I’ll concede that point. The main issue remains that the RE devs, skilled as they might be, don’t seem to have any plans to do anything like ED. Maybe other people could make a better Eternal Darkness game, but they aren’t doing it so why not let the only guy who’s made a good one so far have a crack at it? I’m not saying Dyack will definitely be able to repeat his success (he did just make 2 lousy games after all), he is 1 for 1 so far on Eternal Darkness. I think you can be bad at making one kind of game and good at another, so until Dyack makes a bad ED game, I’ll hold out hope that he can get it right a second time. Obviously, I would never pay him to make another X-Men game. I just figure that a chance at another Eternal Darkness, even if there are valid reasons to doubt its turning out well, is better than no chance at all, and people should pledge with the risk in mind. Would I have pledged more if Dyack’s reputation were untarnished? Absolutely. But I still think there is some value in the possibility of another good ED game, which is more than we’d have without this project.

But the crap games were different types of games. Too human was just mediocre. Dyack is good at making decent executions of what he sets his mind to. An action RPG like Too Human has to be excellent to not be a slog, so Too Human failed. But a merely OK execution is fine in a game that gets the writing and atmosphere right, like ED. A lot of the design is already figured out; it really shouldn’t be that hard for Dyack to release a modern ED with new characters/story and relying mainly on the tried and true ED basic design. The X-Men thing sounded like he just didn’t care and ignored it. It sounds like he actually cares about this.
Whether Dyack deserves another chance or not, this is the only chance at getting another ED game. It’s not like we get to ask someone else to make it instead. And Dyack’s horror game track record is better than Resident Evil’s so far.
