The public shows interest in the product, it’s get a lot of press initially, but is mainly adopted by tech interested people (at least the first iteration).
Then, privacy concerns starts taking off, but Google assures the public that there’s noting to worry about.
Eventually, someone finds a MAJOR privacy flaw (like, Google tracking you 24/7 without your consent, sending all your live video to their servers, record and store your phone calls without consent etc.)
Google gets slammed in the press and by regulatory authorities and fined millions and millions of dollars.
The public finally sees how scummy their practices are and their reputation suffers greatly going forward.
