The Average Joe Win8 user do not even need this Win+X menu and also do not miss the control panel let alone the cmd, device manager etc., because they do not really use these functionalities of the OS – Maybe the programs and features every once in a while to uninstall a program (but to get to this they basically do not need to find this first since you can hit uninstall from the start screen or the All Apps overview for all Apps and Programs installed on the System).
Personally I’m a what is called a windows power user and as such I’m used to operate Windows with key shortcuts (and every other power user). As I was about to get Win8 I immediately searched the Microsoft Website for win8 specific shortcuts before using win8 and I was good to go when I started using Win8. No complaints ever since.
And now the obligatory car comparison:
If one only drove a motorcycle in his life, can one simply jump into a car and drive without complications? No, common sense dictates you make your self familiar with the control scheme! The fact aside that it wouldn’t be illegal driving without a proper driving license
Searching directly in your files use Win+F
Searching your control panel use Win+W
And if you are working on the desktop or are on the start Screen you might wanna use Win+Q to bring up all Programs and Apps / In a ModernUI App this combination brings up the in App Search though.
If people would simply use the tools provided by the OS all this nonsense bitching would quickly minimize to the hardcore hater. But then again Man is a creature of habits and at a certain age, most of us stop learning new simple things and prefer to stay in the comfort zone.
