a) as 333en said, torrenting could be more inconvenient than this solution
b) it’s not possible to torrent everything. try finding a good torrent of last Tuesday’s episode of Jeopardy.

Keen read your post one way, I’ll read it the other (since you weren’t very clear).
It’s pretty clear that in the context of this story and discussion, we’re talking about torrenting copyright-protected works. Nobody is vilifying Bittorrent as a technology. So please take context into account before accusing people.

I love Tivo, but I have no iOS devices. I can’t wait for the day when companies treat both iOS and Android as the dominant platforms they are and aim for supporting both at launch. I understand the urge to go to iOS first, and developer time is probably limited, but ignoring such a large user base for too long will be foolish.

It certainly doesn’t build much confidence in their product/service, and if anything seems to imply that they’re trying to copy something better (namely, Square). So why not just go with Square?

I kind of take issue with these charts they’ve made. What does the color coding mean? I assume they believe this “fragmentation” is a problem if they’re using such a jarring color to represent all but that one most popular phone. Are they trying to say that they want a single phone for Android? It doesn’t seem like they do, given some of the things they say in the article, but I have no idea!

I do think Tim Cook isn’t as big of a fan of this approach as Jobs was.
In situations like this, I often wonder what would happen if the contentious party got everything they wanted. If Apple were able to sue Android out of existence, do they really think they would suddenly sell an additional iPhone for every Android device no longer out there? I tend to think that it would end up being a PR disaster and actually cost them in the long run.
Naturally, something like that won’t happen, but moves like this certainly don’t endear anyone to them. People aren’t buying any Android phones because of any of the things Apple is suing over. Android phones are selling to the people who want something different from what Apple is selling. Apple is selling something that their customers want, and that’s great too.
I guess my main point is: how about we all chill out and make cool stuff?
(Sorry I rambled a little here. It’s been a long day…)

Woohoo! Go VLC! I install you on every computer I work on! I’d have to say that at least 300 of those downloads are mine. I download it for friends and family, and every computer I set up for my customers. I know there are other applications out there, but nothing has the place in my heart that VLC does.

I don’t understand, are you mad because it’s too much like iTunes or not enough? If it’s the former, I don’t see the resemblance, if it’s the latter, then GOOD!

I love Rdio, and the new look is nice and works better than iTunes, but I’m still not satisfied with how it handles items in your own collection. It seems to focus far too much on what’s hot, and then doesn’t change that stuff out for new stuff.
Also, I’ve complained to them about their email user search. It doesn’t actually search your contacts for email addresses that match other users, even though it implies that it will do just that. Instead it just lets you invite the users in your contact list. This is useless to me, and sadly I don’t know anyone who uses Rdio, making the social aspects of the service useless.

It does look better, but to a fault. The Zune software is gorgeous, but it’s a gross example of form over function. Except for the “screensaver” mode it goes into when playing. There is nothing wrong with that.
…I miss my Zune sometimes…

I’m glad car companies are finally wising up. I have a 2008 model car, and it has hands-free bluetooth but no A2DP, which surprises me. So instead I’ve gone through three or four adapters to find one I like.
In-car user interfaces are universally bad. Sorry, they all are. Even (especially?) aftermarket units. Just give me Bluetooth 4.0 and steering wheel controls and I’ll be a really happy camper.
It still amazes me that there’s no bluetooth remote controls out there for phones. You know, something with play/pause/ff/rew that isn’t also a headset/headphone device. Nothing with just controls… Stupid.

I really don’t care about the security aspect of this product. I’m more interested in how it might be able to improve my own network.
I live in a condo complex where at the moment, I can see a couple dozen WiFi hotspots. I know my network is secure enough, so I could care less about the security aspects of this. But obviously it’s a problem when over 20 hotspots are essentially sharing 3 usable channels. My WiFi is unreliable, and I’d love the be able to cut down the number of access points I see going through the air.
Presumably, it might be able to cut down on other signals travelling on the same frequency. It took me a while to realize that the device I was using to send sound wirelessly to my rear speakers was operating in the 2.4GHz range and causing my WiFi to go out completely. If the people in an apartment next to me had had this wallpaper, presumably my mistake wouldn’t have affected them (I don’t know if it did or not – I hope not!).
So again, I could care less about the security aspect, I just want better performance…
…but I don’t like wallpaper…

Sorry, I’m sticking with Lastpass. I have to support the local company! (they’re based in Vienna, VA, which is awesome because who the hell is based here?)
I don’t really understand why I want my password/credential manager to be gamified. I want it to be focused on security above all else…and not much else. I also don’t feel like I want it to be my online payment service. Why does it need to replace Google Checkout/Wallet or one of those competitors? I never keep any money in those services anyway…
Oh, and no browser extension? No thanks. I hate bookmarklets.

You’re right about the control part (though I don’t think that’s a big deal), but the multi-platform isn’t anything special. Lastpass has it beaten there.
