Right now, Microsoft is on two different screens of mine, the PC and the TV, but only through one device — the PC. I use a desktop as my main computer and as a HTPC for Blurays, YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and DVR. I started to get excited about some of the XbOs TV capabilities, but it looks like it won’t quite replace my PC as my TV companion, and I’ve been pretty happy with my PC as a gaming platform (and I am reasonably certain that any new PC I get can play all of my old games). Maybe with the more PC-like architecture, we will see some benefit to the PC platform from developments on the XbO, but I feel like Microsoft has long neglected the PC platform when it comes to making a great gaming experience, so it’s hard to be optimistic.
tl;dr, XbO sounds good for gaming, but not my TV needs, while the Microsoft’s offerings on the PC are the opposite.

Looking through some of the data on Wikipedia, predictions made in April/May have had mixed accuracy; some overestimation, some underestimation, and a couple of years pretty accurate. But I’m sure there is a lot of worry about it in Florida.

I feel like I have heard this sort of thing each year since the crazy 2005 season (the one that spawned Katrina, Rita, and had so many named storms, they had to name some after the Greek alphabet).
It’d be interesting to dig up some of the old numbers and see whose predictions stacked up the best.

I am fed up with the way Facebook is encroaching on the real world, and how it affects your interactions. When you say you’re leaving Facebook, people think you are actually insane.
I know that feeling. Quit Facebook a year and a half ago. Got a lot of skeptical feedback from friends

Another reason is that I’m tired of being a product, a commodity sold to others. I know that people will compare this to Google but at the end of the day I am (very) happy with the services I receive from Google and I’m safe in the knowledge that my information isn’t sold to others.
This seems to be a common feeling — many people feel comfortable with giving Google our data, but not Facebook. On it’s face, it seems like there is some sort of contradiction, but in the end, I don’t mind Google having more access to my data because (1) a lot of it is boring stuff and (2) I reap tangable benefits from it. That’s just my take, though.

If you’ve not seen Freeman’s Mind, you should check it out. It’s a weird mashup between a machinima and a “let’s play” video. Ross Scott plays through the game Half LIfe and performs a voiceover of what is really happening in Gordan Freeman’s mind during the apocalyptic events of the game. What comes out is the person who is able to survive a resonance cascade and mow down scores of army soldiers is a really intriguing character, completely unlike how Gordon is portrayed in the game itself, full of brains, laziness, and a good deal of psychopathy. Here is episode one.
