I had to buy this after seeing the setup.
So far one photo worked and five pictures disappeared into the digital void. I can’t say I’m too worried about the loss of the pictures I took of myself pulling faces, though.

The point is, without more information, you have no reason to disbelieve her statement that it was stolen. There’s every possibility that it was taken by this man.
Of course there are other possibilities, but you (and seeming numerous others here) seem to have taken the stance that the victim is lying about the events that took place, and the man using her phone in bed with his girlfriend, just happened across the phone.
So:
Girl says her phone was stolen.
Man takes photos on said phone and inadvertently uploads them.
Woman uploads pictures to Facebook.
Verge Forum members claim girl actually misplaced phone, and is either lying, or assuming it was stolen when she actually misplaced her phone.
You admit that we’ll never really know what happened, but still make an “educated guess” that one of the few details you have is a fabrication.
To make any guess with so few details would seem to be uneducated.

No one should assume anything because it is what suits them.
And yet, you’re all too happy to assume that “she must have been careless and left it on a table or dropped it somewhere.”

I listened to Gruber’s new podcast too, and he sounded more upbeat and responsive than he EVER had been with Dan. I’d never heard an episode where Dan didn’t have to try to coax information out of John, and I think it’s purely a matter of Dan wanting to make the show interesting to listeners rather than John.
Now, as host, he’s setting the topics and picking things he enjoys talking about, hence the change in attitude.
The only dick move was to call his new podcast The Talk Show. If he wanted to move on, that’s his prerogative, but he could have just have easily announced his new show with a new name on DF and avoided this fallout

comparing an 80’s phone to a galaxy is like comparing a small modern phone to zoolanders.
Yes, I agree. A small modern phone like this could be compared to the Zoolanders phone.
I posted an exaggerated comparison suggesting we’ll look back and laugh, and you responded with an exaggerated contrast, saying “this is no better.” So what? I’d say the same about a tiny phone too, if that was at all relevant to product in the advert, but it isn’t.
Also, if you’re going to call me arrogant on the basis that I find large/tiny phones laughable, you should remember that you clearly implied the tiny Zoolanders phone was at least equally as ridiculous, if not more so.

First things first: different people, different opinions. You can’t dismiss one man’s opinion because it contradics another man’s that YOU decided to place in the same arbitrary group.
Secondly: “style” could refer to several things. I don’t think anybody is arguing that Samsung haven’t ripped off Siri’s interface. That interface could be referred to as Apple’s style. Is copying stylish? Is the interface as elegant as Apple’s? No. Samsung copied Apple’s style badly, and ended up with an unstylish imitation.

Do you have an Intel mac? Macs with Power PC processors are supposedly immune to Flashback in its current form, so the security update isn’t supported on those computers (because it wouldn’t do anything.)
That’s the most obvious reason I can think of, anyway.

Maybe I’m wearing my tinfoil hat a little tightly today, but the implications of this for the web as we know it could be huge.
Imagine a web where sites like IMDB struggle to survive as their pageviews via google evaporate overnight, and Google integrates IMDB-style functionality with their social platform and digital content store.
Google becomes the online equivalent of Walmart – a one-stop, hassle-free, convenient place for instant information. The results page becomes second to the information box, where google links to its own platforms, and one or two external sources – wiki, mainstream news sites, etc.
Google is no longer a site that sends people to other sites; it holds all the information necessary to keep them inside the google-verse. And that’s the story of how Google stole the internet. Perhaps.
Or Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Hm, tough one. I use iOS for most of the day, but OS X is where I get my work done.
I’d say keep iOS, simply because comparatively, Windows is a better, more polished replacement for OS X than Android would be for iOS.

That’s the most interesting thing about Samsung’s thinking. They know, as an Android OEM, that they have to differentiate their handsets from other OEMs through both hardware and software, but (initially, at least) chose to differentiate from Android OEMs by imitating Apple, rather than making their own unique experience.
Differentiation through imitation. Only Samsung.

Just a thought, but couldn’t you use bluetooth instead of RFID tags, so if the laptop detects your phone’s presence (you’ll presumably always have with you) it doesn’t go off?
I’m not really sure about the idea’s plausibility, aside from being an interesting project, though. If I were stealing your laptop and it made a noise, it either wouldn’t be loud enough to bother about, or I’d yank out the battery. It’d be safer just to get a lock ;)

I agree with you. I have a folder for website apps, and I almost never use them. To be honest, I forget they even exist until I run up against some kind of problem, like a Flash-only video, or navigation that isn’t very touch friendly.
To me, being in an App feels disconnected from the web, and I think my subconscious rather likes the idea of the browser being my gateway to everything on the internet, rather than just accessing little pockets of it at a time.

Pages does not natively edit word documents. It can only export and import as .doc
This means when you open the .doc file (import it) it’s converted to a pages file, hence the warning about the unsupported word feature, so once you’re done editing, you’ll need to export the file as a word document again.
Your confusion came because you tried to save the file upon exiting the program, so Pages threw up a Save dialogue for pages files. Instead go to File→Export→Word→Next
Hope this helps.

I really like this idea. It looks pretty sleek and well thought out. Curiously, when he selects text, the cut/copy dialogue doesn’t show, but if it did, it would be perfect.

This doesn’t add up at all. EA clearly intended to end support for the game, and are now backtracking as fast as possible. The closest guess I can come up with is that their music licensing deal for Rock Band expired on the 31st, and they didn’t want to renew, but that’s pure speculation.
That said, I don’t trust EA at all. I pay for my apps to avoid adverts, yet almost every EA title I have advertises other EA titles, or sends me junk notifications if I have them enabled. Life with EA is like having an abusive partner. You don’t want to leave because of the good times, but they just keep fucking you over.

Wow, so if it wasn’t for a US court making the injunction temporarily unenforceable, Germans would be unable to buy Windows 7 & XBox, unable to download Media Player / Internet Explorer (updates?), on top of being unable to use push email for iCloud, all at the hands of Motorola.
I can’t see many Germans being very happy with Moto.
