I have a few thoughts on all of this. I know Apple is leveraging preexisting companies/technology for Siri, but it’s still a good implemenatation and I thought, maybe I’m right, that they did a lot of custom work on top to make this service. I would have thought it’d take longer for competitors to pop up because of this.
I would have been shocked for Samsung to do better with their version. Not because I think Apple is a better company than Samsung, but because they’re different. Apple has all this investment in software development in addition to the hardware, and Samsung seems mostly hardware, with some customization on top of 3rd party stuff, like Android. So with that said, I’m impressed with the comparison.
Since I don’t care about either company that much, in terms of rooting for them, I actually want S Voice to be very similar to Siri. I’ve been annoyed how Apple occupies the headspace of consumers to the point that they won’t even consider alternatives which depresses competition. As a consumer, I really want a number of very competitive choices for whatever product I’m after, and anything that removes the exclusivity image from the leader will help that along. I’d like people to think of Apple and iPhones as just techonology to be compared against others, and not as just a default choice.

Pretty sweet deal. 35 year career to look for something that might not show up. I would take that deal. Although, maybe to0 depressing as well. Could she even be happy if aliens are discovered right after she retires?

They look nice, but they could potentially look even better. It less of a problem with apps because developers can fiddle with things more. I’m talking about some of the overall UI limitations plus the choices made for the core UI that you see in the Start Screen plus the desktop chrome.
BTW, if I do hate anything about Windows 8 it’s the new Windows logo. I think it’s a incredible mistake to abandon the established flag, which I think looks like an actual logo and is prettier than the new one. It reminds me of attractive people who get tons of botox and actually look worse for it. Muddled thinking.

The thing that bugs me about the front page, aside from taking too long to load, is that the promoted articles have to be scanned every time I visit to make sure I’m not missing something new, which is tedious.

Is there any software that can show you what the final product will look like? Because your digital model might have a certain degree of find detail that will come out soft, and it might not be worth it depending on the object. I’d like to pre-visualize the finished product.

I wonder, if the at their heart these policies are so similar and cover the same issues, what chance there might be for an industry standard type of policy that uses the same language and they can all refer to, and any additional terms can be made an addendum to. So instead of reading the fine print and comparing against each other all the time, you can simply be familiar with and understand a common policy agreement.
Also, it’s too bad that the rights they claim to your content weren’t put in more specific language as to purpose. But I understand that anytime they might upgrade the service and modify hosted content, it would then require the terms of service to be upgraded and the user to agree to them, and that would become unworkable. Shame.
