Granted as far as smartphones, its hard to list any other phones with a youtube app, however, youtube is not the only example. Not to mention, Windows Phone is #3 in smartphones, and it makes no sense to cater only to #1 and #2. There is also Maps and GMail, and the diminishing of the Web Apps by redirecting to older versions designed for older browsers and feature phones that do not support current standards (aka: the version you would see on IE Mobile 6). And who can forget the atrocious Google Search app on Windows Phone which is god awful, outdated, and uses speech recognition worse than Android 2.2.
As to the web apps thing I have mentioned, go to GMail in a Windows Phone’s browser. Go to Google Drive. Go to Google Maps. Every single one loads a basic, non-html5 version. Example:
Google. iOS vs WP8
As you see, they do not load the HTML5 versions. In fact, I changed my user agent in IE10 Desktop to iPhone 5 iOS and the HTML5 versions loaded properly. Windows Phone 8 uses the exact same rendering engine that the desktop version of IE10 on Windows 8, so it should be compatible, yet google deliberately sends a Windows Phone to an old version made for older, outdated devices.
So in summary, Google:
Oh, and if you compare the Google app for Windows Phone to the others, it is horrid. It works worse than the non-html5 version in the browser, and the “voice search” function google built in is laughably worse than Android 2.2 (I’ve used 2.2’s voice search. It was awful on most devices.)

Meh. Maybe its like facebook in that sense: Its useless if theres no one to share with. Meaning, maybe people that interest you are not as easily findable on Tumblr. I find a lot, but im interested in a lot of stuff that’s easily findable on tumblr. Still, you can find it all on tumblr. Im not saying the entire internet is on tumblr, so what I mean by “front page” is that almost every kind of person and every genre of content the internet has to offer is somewhere, whether in few or masses, on tumblr.

I agree. Though if thorough investigations are ran and they are fair, it wouldn’t be hard to rule against Google (unless Canadian laws greatly vary from US laws)

Granted, however, I feel android was purchased to be more of a vessel to Google services, which is becoming more apparent recently. They had to make it a household name in order for such to work. Most everything they acquired was integrated into services they had(including integration into search), and what did stay its own either was used to tout their services or was eventually axed/integrated into other things, such as Picasa (Youtube is the only exception I can think of that didn’t have either happen.)

true, but that would only investigate the privacy issues. There is also: Buying up companies and integrating them into their products at excess (A few companies or a buying spree is one thing, but this is practically Google’s business model), Attempting to suppress (potential) competition that they cant buy up (Windows Phone is most notable one in recent days), and a number of other things too…

even part of their search is from acquisitions. Knowledge graph uses a natural language processing companies tech that google acquired and ads have a huge part to play in results, which a lot of their ad tech was acquired.

If that’s all you got on tumblr, your doing it wrong. There is so much there, you just have to explore.

Couldn’t the event possibly be a company rebranding? seems nobody is thinking about that possibility. I mean, their homepage could use another redesign, being better than before but still too much content for a search homepage, and that logo is outdated.

Actually, with the vast ways its been used, its like the homepage for the internet. From business, to ahem “pleasure”, to tv, to social networking, its all there. If its on the internet, you’ll find something of it on Tumblr.

Not just teens being “deep”. Also, roleplaying, keeping in touch with fandoms, being hipsters, blogging, hosting blog style websites (yes, I have seen businesses use a tumblr page with a custom URL for a website. They are basically using Tumblr as a CMS. I know it’s tumblr because the tumblr follow and dashboard controls are still present on them.), Food, [Censored], and more. Its a very vast social network. Think of it as a summary or front page for the Internet.

Google would of integrated it with Picasa, then gave it the axe to make room for Google+ Photos. So, in a way, It would of likely been worse with Google.

Some of its internal too. She’s changed Yahoo’s work structure, improved maternity leave pay, updated company phones, etc… Also, with each acquisition it seems Mayer has been doing like Google has and been taking an axe to a number of their lesser used and unpopular applications, services, and areas where they were essentially just throwing away money. Also, she has been keeping the company quite under the radar as of late. Not much in the way of advertising or new services. Just needed updates, acquisitions, and integrations.

they did but unlike Mayer they ran those acquisitions into the ground and were spread farther apart time wise. Plus, Mayer was an important employee once at Google, a company that’s made its living off acquisitions (Android wasn’t theirs, you know), so even though I have no idea if she was actually involved with any of Google’s acquisitions, she at least would have more knowledge than Yahoo does right now.

I know. Just making a point that her Yahoo potentially could do better than the Yahoo of the past, seeing as she comes from a company with experience in this area of acquisitions.

I know the first thing, as well as the second. I was just stating they actually have someone at the helm who could potentially acquire a company and do right by it, unlike pre-Marissa yahoo that killed or weakened everything.

The Wii U I feel had some faults the 3DS had. The lineup error is fixed, but the system software problem (3DS: Lack of shop and some system bugs; WiiU: Lack of TVii and system apps, as well as slow and buggy) still remains. By next year I (hope) they have everything worked out and they system does well.

Lose mindshare? You know a majority of people who play and own Nintendo games & systems will still play and own Nintendo games and systems. Families, for instance. Those who grew up with Nintendo and are nostalgic, for another. Nintendo is hardwired into many brains. They aint losin mindshare that fast. Only mindshare they are losing is that which wasn’t theirs to begin with.

Yahoo is now ran buy Marissa Mayer, a employee that was once key to Google, and has came from a company that 1/2 its products and features are results of buyouts and acquisitions. It could actually live (granted, they don’t give it an awful redesign, and lay off the logos. Perhaps they do it in a similar manner to FB & instagram. Don’t integrate. Let it run like normal.)

That was before Marissa Meyer, an ex-Google employee that was important to Google. She knows her stuff, and she came from a company that 1/2 its products are results of acquisitions and buyouts.
