Yeah, I heard of patents getting classified, but I thought it was more of a case that the patent was denied so that the information did not become public (because the invention is strategically important to the country), rather than there being secret patents. After all, patents can’t be secret, since you can’t infringe IP if it is impossible for you to know about it. Otherwise invention would become impossible since you would never know what had been patented and would therefore open you up to lawsuits (I know this does happen, but you hiding patents is to do with the art of writing them so it is specific enough to cover the invention clearly, but vague enough that people searching for patents don’t find it).

I don’t get it, why did you post this link? I’ve seen these before, but it doesn’t address my point that neither side of this argument is going to change the other’s opinion. If anything, posting a link to legal documents is not going to help because nobody wants to read pages and pages of legalese, and that is why most people don’t understand or care about the case.

That’s a sure fire way to win an argument accuse someone who isn’t even arguing with you about being a sock puppet troll. I was just making a joke about your choice of words. If I was to actually bother with this argument I wouldn’t deny that Samsung copied parts of the iPhone, that much is obvious, but that there is nothing wrong with it.

The thing I found funny about the Nexus was when everyone went to Asia to the announcement everyone said it had a gorgeous screen and how great it was, but the very next day the story came out that it was Pentile so the very same people who said the screen was gorgeous were talking about how they were let down that it was ‘only’ a Pentile display. I sometimes wonder if it is psychosomatic, whether people convince themselves that screens are bad just because they are Pentile. I know Pentile or not, my Galaxy note screen is way beyond my old Sensation in screen quality (although not as nice as the One X or even the Xperia S screens, but that doesn’t make it bad, just not the best).

And yet, it is less than a sixth of the maximum damages the court could award of $150000 per song. They could have got damages of $4.5 million, but the actual damages are almost irrelevant. They are just big numbers to scare you since for the average person even a $50000 fine would cripple them financially. It would probably take a person most of their life to make $675000, assuming they didn’t need to eat, drink, drive, rent a house, hire a lawyer to defend them etc. They would never pay off this fine, and would definitely not pay of a multi million dollar fine, and they know this. It’s all for show, they want to make people terrified that if they download music the RIAA will destroy you and your family’s future, because they know they can never stem the tide of filesharing by prosecuting those who do it. There aren’t enough lawyers or courts for that, even if they stopped prosecuting all other crime.

Isn’t that the problem. If you asked people what Samsung had allegedly copied they would pick out obvious things like icons, colour schemes, the central button. But when the lawyers look at it they pick out things like that little bounce when you scroll down a list (I know there were others, but that’s the only one anyone remembers). And if you try and explain that to most people the usual response is ‘you can patent that?’ or ’That’s all?’ I know mine was.

At least that image isn’t as bad as the Galaxy tab one with the changing aspect ratio.

It’s a bit semantic, but it is surely up to others whether you were successful? Otherwise I am successfully countering your whole argument with a petty quip about semantics. I jest, but I feel this argument is probably a waste of effort. I don’t think you are going to convince anyone that already against you that Samsung copied Apple’s design, and likewise I doubt anyone will convince you that they didn’t. And the majority of people will go on not caring who took what from where as long as their phones keep working.

Damn straight. Chrome mobile should be one of the headline features of ICS, and I guess the only reason it isn’t the default browser in ICS is that it is still in beta. I would be surprised if the old android browser was still in jelly bean.
Aside from chrome I don’t know (multitasking is nicer, and notifications too) , but I have a note so touchwiz kind of obfuscates what is an upgrade due to ICS and what is an upgrade due to samsung…… I think most of the good was ICS though, the S note app is not particularly better than S memo and that’s the only enhancement that I know is Samsung’s for sure.

Does it come with NFC? I know they are trying to make a push for contactless payments at the olympics, which seems doomed to fail since there are practically no compatible phones.
From what I gather, the note is NFC capable, but the international edition does not have the required components. If this is an NFC enabled model it would have a good reason to pick this over the normal one, but if it is just a paint job and a ‘bonus’ app or two I’m not interested.

Tesco mobile is great, they use O2 coverage which is pretty good, but are much more flexible than O2 proper. You can get 1 GB of data on a 1 month rolling contract from £15.
3 does unlimited data (it does have a fair use I believe, but who doesn’t?) if you top up £15 a month, I remember looking at it when I moved provider, but the guy at carphone warehouse warned me that they remotely lock unlocked phones to their network if you use a pay as you go sim. I’m not sure if this is true, given the source, but it was enough to give me pause for thought. People complain about their coverage, but my friends in London don’t usually have any trouble.
