I don’t understand all the hate on this deal. Yahoo clearly needs talent and new brand name websites.
Everything that I’ve been hearing related to yahoo looks like they are gearing up for some major pushes in the midterm future. Yahoo could be the most interesting story of the next year or so. They are obviously not overly content anymore.
Who knows what will happen but at least it is interesting.
Like I mentioned in a couple places yesterday, They had to get an official gtalk app on iOS first, then they would start folding everything into it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the G+ hangouts bar on the right gets folded into Gmail in the very near future. I also suspect that the G+ messenger app goes away in the next G+ app update. The phone number verification makes me think that SMS is basically there but they wanted to make sure the app is distributed correctly before they push it out.
The only thing I really dislike is the lack of contacts status.
I’m surprised they didnt release an iOS app for it. Maybe they just thought it was futile to take on iTunes on its own turf but it seems like a no brainer to me. Simply by being on iOS AND android it would do something that ITunes can’t (and probably wont do). That’s without even talking about its web browser interface.
