Even if you have brightness on max in the display settings, if power save mode is on in the power settings the screen will still be significantly dimmed. I noticed this when I was comparing my N4 to my One and wondering why my One seemed darker even with brightness maxed. Then I turned power saver mode off and things got better :D
Not saying this was the case with you of course.

I didn’t think I would actually have to go in-depth with this as the point is pretty clear. Yes, the S4 has a better processor, screen, battery, etc than the S3. That is not surprising and should hardly even be a factor. There is nothing truly different about the hardware upgrades from the S3 and that is what I was getting at by “hardware improvements”. HTC included those obvious spec bumps, but actually introduced new/relatively new features. An original design that hasn’t been done before, actually good speakers, better microphones than most phones (yes the Lumia 920 has them), new radio system, better camera technology, etc.
My post was trying to point out the rather ridiculous “none of the HTC One’s advantages over the S4 are practical”. Why is it ridiculous? Because the only things the S4 has over the One are its software features and those are not practical in the slightest.
Processor? Basically the same (S4 is clocked higher, yet the performance isn’t as good as the One).
Battery? Both have been reported as getting great battery life.
Screen? HTC One takes the cake unless you like over saturated colors.
Camera(s)? Debatable. Most reviews seem to think they’re both great cameras, the One has a better front cam though.
I mean I could keep doing this, but what’s the point? You’ve made up your mind.

Yes, the HTC One looks good, has fancy speakers, and draws out the pity of many a soul, but in my humble and honest opinion, most of the aspects that people point out as being advantages over the S4 simply aren’t practical.
Yeah, you’re right. Waving my hand over my phone is much more practical than hardware improvements.

Yeah, don’t take what The Verge says at face value. They’re journalists and therefor they try to make sensationalist articles for reactions like this. HTC isn’t losing money yet. People seem to think HTC is bleeding money, but they’re still making a profit, it’s just a lower profit than the quarter before it (or has been so far).
HTC won’t be dying anytime soon. Buy a One and help them out.

I’d wager that the brightness was set really low or power saver mode was on (it automatically turns the brightness down). Granted, that still wouldn’t explain the yellowness so it is possible the unit had a defective display because there is no way in hell that the First has a better display (I have an HTC One).

I like Google+, I really do, but it’s in that shitty situation where: No one really uses it, so no one signs up for it, so no one really uses it.
Gonna be a tough battle to beat Facebook, but I truly hope it does.

Android is meant to be open and tinkered with
That’s weird, my stock Nexus 4 doesn’t seem to have an SD card slot or removable battery. Guess Google doesn’t know Android. Silly Google!

This doesn’t mean HTC is done for, it just means they’re losing some of their staff. Hell, replacing people could end up being a good thing, who knows. Worst comes to worst, someone will just buy HTC or perform some kind of Microsoft/Nokia type deal.
Well, there was Windows Mobile before Android.

I’m guessing they may be referring to a Nexus device by HTC (like, if HTC was popular, Google would ask them to make a Nexus or something), but I’m not really sure. Kinda just grasping at straws to figure out what he meant and that was the only thing that seemed somewhat plausible.

Except Samsung doesn’t just sell phones like HTC. They sell tons of other products and generate far more money than HTC ever could. When they entered the smartphone game they still had more money to throw at their products than HTC did. Now its just gotten worse :(

And reinstall the game on their console? I’m not sure if it’s going to be that easy. I’m sure they can see if the game has been linked+installed on the first console you put the game in. I can’t imagine them letting you just install it on all your friends consoles with your log in.

Yeah, that’ll be great. Now every time you want to share a game it will have to be uninstalled from your console and installed on your friends console. Then when you want to play it again, your friend has to uninstall it from their console and you have to reinstall it again! Yay! That makes so much sense!

Bias can permeate in all scenarios. I talked with someone from an AT&T corporate store the other day and they straight up told me that they only follow Apple news and only use Apple devices. They’ve played with other devices, but they only care to sell, use, and talk about Apple devices. I would say his opinion is suspect even though he works in an environment with phones.
I can’t believe I’m really having this little argument over semantics. I just said in a reply above:
In most nonprofessional cases, what I said would still be applicable.
So is what I said 100% true for every single case? No. That wasn’t the point.

Gotcha. I know the governors can still be changed, but in most cases, people talking about it are running custom kernels so that’s what led to my assumption.
I’ve compared my N4 to my One more times than I can count. Launching the same apps, launchers, games, etc and testing them all out. I honestly couldn’t tell much of a difference. Especially when it came to launchers. I don’t see any stutter, not even a slight hint in the likes of Nova. I’m just confused because your experience has been one of the very, very few I have read about the HTC One and I regularly read the comments on The Verge, Engadget, Gizmodo, and XDA as well as all the reviews of the device. I have used 3 HTC Ones (had to send one back because of getting metal in the speaker) and I never noticed this stuttering behavior you see. Odd :/
