Perhaps someone can go cut my sandwich in half with a gun, please?
…but you’d use a hammer for that, right? A hammer is a tool, after all. Or maybe you would simply use a knife, a totally innocuous object which is impossible to harm someone with, right?
“Weapons” is a subset of “tools”, meaning all weapons are tools. All tools have a specific purpose; weapons are tools with the specific purpose of causing harm. For example, a hammer is a tool. It is not designed to be a weapon but it can be used for that purpose.
Just because you carry a gun doesn’t mean you HAVE to use it. One of the first things they teach in a CCW courses is to do everything you can to avoid a gun battle. It’s the worst situation you can face, because even if you “win” you’ll have a devastating legal battle to face.
My point, which you failed to address, still stands. Any course of action I can take without a having a weapon, I can also take while having a weapon. A weapon simply increases the number of available options.
It’s not that scary; just update the technology that detects guns where they are not supposed to be.
Right now we have metal detectors because guns are metal. If guns are plastic, we’ll just do something else to detect them. There are relatively few places for weapons are prohibited. The only places that I can recall where shootings have taken place where guns are illegal took place on school grounds where they do not attempt to detect weapons.
Well I can count 4 instances out of 4 examples you provided that I’d be happy to have avoided, gun or not. I can avoid many without a gun, but I can avoid more with a gun, no?
