Even the icons and the dock look better with the bigger screen.
Also, the animations and transitions seem smoother than the iPhone Beta.

This.
iOS 7 has some really nice touches but they have some ways to go to get it polished. Can they do it in less than 3 months?

While this is true, it is very un-Apple like for lack of a better word. The fact that they don’t have an iPad Beta out gives me hope that what we’re seeing now is a very rushed version.
Apart from the text nuances we’ve been discussing here I do like the look and feel of the OS at app level as well as the animations and transitions but I can’t forgive the bad choice in icon design and colours… What is wrong with a deeper green like iOS 6 for the Phone, Messages and FaceTime icons? What about that amateurish Videos icon? Who’s idea was it to colour it with something reminiscent of Smurfs piss?
That said, the icons won’t stop me from updating though.

I would also suggest a revision to buttons for drop down menus like the call sheet you posted.
Similar to this.

It would introduce some much needed uniformity while maintaining the coloured line look they’re going for.

Stop apologising for using Apple products…
I’ve been using them since the G4 PowerBook and if there is one thing I know, it is that the experience then and now is unparalleled.
Apple learnt a long time ago that the experience is what matters, not a spec sheet.
Let others enjoy their preferred platform.

Yep. It is why a smaller bolder font will be better. I expect these nuances to be worked out sooner rather than later though.

I agree with you with regard to the poor text format. It looks all over the place right now.
I think a bolder font and smaller text will do wonders in that regard though.

No. This is iOS 7 simulated on an iPad in xCode 5 by copying over the elements from xCode 4.

Flat interfaces look good with negative space. iOS 7 will look great on an iPad.
It will look great on a larger display phone too.

Nobody is telling the devs to use white etc etc. they can use whatever colour they like and just incorporate the translucency in their navigation bars. The use of text and colours is what drives the minimalist feel as well as the text transitions that happen while swiping back. I would suggest you download the WWDC app and watch a few of the videos especially the state of the nation one.
I have played around with the beta and I have reverted back but the new look will not hinder app developers in any way. If you look at the Films section in the iTunes Store you will see a dark theme which incorporates the translucency of other white apps but it still looks stunning.

I’m actually gravitating towards a larger display and I think that Apple can do well in that segment with a super retina unit (not sure of this possible right now) but IGZO will get rid of a lot of the current trade offs.
I’m actually thinking of skipping on the next iPhone to see what they put forward next year.

No more design awards? Serious…
Have you seen that Mac Pro they showed off yesterday?

People need to understand that a lot of these pieces are merely opinion pieces that if written by another editor on staff would have a different tone.
Not everybody is out to mock Apple just like not everybody is going to like the current iteration of the OS.

It just feels like the icons don’t belong. Flat and simple is one thing but bland and cartoonish is another.
I think the shape of the icons are wrong too and it would be better to revert to the older shape. There are plenty beautiful flat icons around that inspiration could have been drawn from.
I must say that the icons, dock, control and notification centre when accessed from the home screen are my only gripes. Otherwise it is a stunning OS.

Icons are also getting to me somewhat. Otherwise the UI is great.

Utter crap. I’ve been running the beta for a few hours now and I can say you’re talking out of an orifice other than your mouth.
I can create and remove folders, listen to music with Album Art. There is some lag here and there especially in the phone apps favourites if you enable contact pictures but it is definitely useable.
Also, you can downgrade.

So everything went smoothly. The OS is quite stunning although laggy in some places but that is to be expected.
I think some work can be done on the opacity of the control and notification centre when accessed from the home screen because the icons underlay just creates a rainbow mess. When accessed from other areas of the OS they look quite alright as if they belong.
The awful dock has to go though. It’s just a hinderance for the wallpapers. A very basic thin line about halfway through the icons is a much better idea.

So I’m really interested in checking out iOS 7 but I refuse to pay so much for a developer account.
If I install it using this underhanded method is there a way I can revert back to 6.1.4 should I run into trouble.

WiFi Hot Spot 2.0 is hot spot on demand so it doesn’t drain your battery.
Eg. If the device you’re using goes to sleep the connection will be suspended and will pick up again when awake.

I think this new look will be great on the iPad. The pastel coloured icons will look wonderful on a screen with more space. The translucency will really pop out on the iPad as well.

Whilst I agree with you, I don’t really care who does it first but who does better. (Borrow and improve don’t copy and paste)
Apple have certainly borrowed a lot from other OS’ but their take on the UI is unique and refreshing with the translucency.
Apart from the awful icons (at least some of them), Ive has honestly outdone himself in such a short time.

This.
My only gripe is the icons… Otherwise the translucency provides a sense of depth as well making the device extremely personal. The chosen wallpaper will have a great effect on how menus look and feel. I think the default wallpaper which they demoed should have been the one with stars.
Airdrop alone is enough for me to upgrade.
Devs will have a touch time updating their apps to incorporate this new look.

I’ve also fiddled around with the WWDC App and if this is what Apple has in store then I’m good. And that icon is stunning in its simplicity.
Looks and feels like the Music app with a few changes to the navigation bar in that it’s less cluttered. What I’m wondering is if this change will be system round… Will they drop the black navigation bars in newer apps like podcasts and the stores for this?
The blue navigation bars will gone that’s for sure.
