Whenever you guys eventually review this thing, can you please measure and report the power consumption? I’m interested in the power usage required for these always-on-and-active devices. Some poorly designed audio receivers, for example, consume nearly 100W when in standby mode, which is utterly ridiculous (I’m looking at you Onkyo, and your terrible HDMI passthrough mode).

I think it will have to be this. Essentially, what Google TV has become, except running iOS and actually supported by content-app devs (Amazon, Netflix, etc). Why not open up iOS gaming to the living room?
I seriously doubt it will support local streaming though, or, at least, with limited functionality. Don’t expect an XMBC killer without jail-breaking.

It seems many posters are having a hard time differentiating “fast” from “smooth”. They are not mutually exclusive, nor do they go hand-in-hand. They are two separate properties. Please be clear when you are debating the two.

I mean, didn’t someone from Google say to wait for I/O for big news regarding G-TV. Was it just the update to 4.2? It seems like, for this year, Google just wasn’t ready for I/O. Most of the stuff they announced wont be rolling out for a month or so.

Though the article mentions that it will be more Spotify-like, where the user selects the track, I’d expect that, with Google’s data mining experience, they’d be able to offer Pandora-like suggestions. The holy grail is a Spotify-like service, with the ability for Pandora-like recommendations (Spotify’s radio is crap, so it doesn’t count).

but doesnt the $30 a month charge give you more content? Why not just use a digital antenna to get the over-the-air content for free?

On second thought, how is that different than Aereo? I’ve never understood the appeal of paying for free broadcast TV to begin with. Is the benefit just that it’s available online, versus using a digital antenna?

That’s not a completely fair comparison, as you’re neglecting the benefits of offsite storage (like what happens when your house burns down?). Nonetheless, for most use cases, the alternative you propose is a valid one.
I try to combine the two approaches. I have local onsite backups for quick backup/recovery of working files, as well as offsite (online) backups for further redundancy and insurance in the event my house is destroyed or burgled. Also, I like the word “burgled”.

When I studied abroad and was traveling frequently, I lost my camera about halfway through my stay. The memories from the second half of my stay are much more vivid, since I was forced to appreciate what I was seeing firsthand, rather then worry about what would look best on a pictures, or from where I could get the best shot. Sure pictures are great, but experiences are better. I sort of wish I had lost my camera sooner.

Can you elaborate on this? Why wouldn’t you have done it with Evernote? I’m only a casual Evernote user, but Keep just doesn’t seem fully baked enough yet for me to fully transition over.

Just of curiosity, had you tried Evernote prior to Keep?
As an occasional Evernote user, I still can’t get fully into using Keep. It seems to follow Google’s typical release patter – release a product when it’s first (sometimes barely) usable, then fill in features later. So, I haven’t totally written it off, but for me it’s a “not yet”.
