What’s your point? They didn’t try to sell a load, fail, and have to give stock away…
They ‘launched’ by giving a load away to devs at IO. That was always the point.

Style guide additions, in Britain:
- GCHQ (not ‘the GCHQ’)
- Government or Cabinet (not the same, but we never say ‘administration’)

Came to comments to make the same point!
Also, it was Mr Brown’s ‘Government’; not his ‘administration’. We don’t have administrations.

The tiles were interesting aesthetically, and I think I fundamentally prefer the alphabetized scroll list to a grid of apps in the drawer (which really are a pain to look through), but I missed things like my e-mail widgets that gave me an instantly glanceable list of my inbox, and settings toggles, and Favourite Contacts. So really, I guess it was mostly widgets that I missed. Also pattern unlock.
It sounds like you need Action Launcher.
It’s nothing like WP8. But it does what you describe wanting.
“Quickdrawer” pulls in from the left side, with alphabetical list of apps. You can also hide any you don’t want to show up, something that’s installed but you never need to open in that way (Navigation say, or Phone, Messaging, something on your home screen).
Widgets still exist – but better than that, swiping or double tapping an app icon on home screen opens a sort of folder, and the widget (which one is configurable) is created within that folder, so you swipe Gmail icon, and you’re presented with widget view of most recent/priority inbox emails.
‘Cover’ icons hide a folder away behind them, swiping or double tapping opens the folder, single tap just opens the ‘Cover’ app.
I hope I’m not making it sound complicated, the developer, Chris Lacy, is insanely awesome, Action Launcher is so smooth, so simple to use, it’s my favourite app and the only worthwhile third-party launcher IMHO.
It’s actually an improvement on stock. I used others to get past Sense on my old Sensation – but Action Launcher is a pleasure to use on my Nexus 4 :)
Chris is also really fast to respond to Twitter/G+ if you have a suggestion or bug or whatever, brilliant dev.
Well.. that’s my endorsement done! No relation or anything I swear, just love the launcher. :)

As far as we know, the whole PRISM thing might count as only one request.
Yes but:
We therefore ask you to help make it possible for Google to publish in our Transparency Report … in terms of both the number we receive and their scope.
So it doesn’t matter if the number of requests is only one, they’d also be publishing the scope of that request.

Interesting. I thought the icon design was far inferior to the app itself.

I have the same question.
Really hope it doesn’t try to stand alone. Though, to be honest, I expect Google’s heading this way with Calendar – it looks a lot like recent updates from Mountain View..

Haha! That’s brilliant.

The user whose screenshot that is could just be using Stardock’s Start8, which uses the Win8 logo as a button to open Start menu, but flatter and more modern design than 7 or earlier.

Seeing it written, I’d have assumed it was said “Mee-ka” (like the singer, which I think is spelt Mica? Or Mika? Not sure.)
I’m actually British, not American, but for this purpose it probably doesn’t make much difference. Much as they might not like it, we all speak English as our primary, it’s that that has most impact on pronunciation of names, I would conjecture.
