I’m sorry, the only thing Asus designed was that weird cirle-brushed display lid.

Sucks to be the one being copied though. I was on the receiving side of such ripoff and its not fun at all.

Aren’t all of these post-iphone devices? Although i’m sure some existed before jan 2007. I guess, in the end, the easiest way to differentiate the post-iPad (or post-iPhone ones) is the added multitouch input.

Did they have to change the looks of it? I know the old keys sucked mechanically, but it looked nice and rather originally.

Yes there are some general rules of the design (again the whole concept of a modern laptop began as powerbook 100, but it doesn’t really matter), but why go the extra mile? It may look like i’m obsesed with keyboards :-), but why did asus change it from that rather nice looking, metalic one, to this air/ultrabook standard? Or making the hinge black instead of, again, metalic one on the older model? There was nothing wrong about them.

See – thats nitpicking right there. What about the “great tough look”? The keyboard is just example of specific design change and simplification.

Most of these field computers had fairly primitive grayscale screens and i’m not even sure people used them with fingers in the past. Even now i see most of them use a pen for input even if its just clicking. Can you post some example?

None of the quotes says stylus sucks, sorry. Just that iPad (or rather iPhone to be fair) changed paradigm of using pen as primary input into one of using fingers as primary input (and multitouch input at that).

how is stupid nitpicking better than stupid generalization? and nitpicking about made up stuff to begin with?

I’m not saying stylus is a bad thing!

Why would i backpedal? Am i saying that pen input sucks or something? Why is everyone so offensive? :| Also (if it will every go past the patent) it will be just a secondary input device.

Can everyone just stop putting words in my mouth? It doesn’t matter if its chicklet or other, its radically changed, simplified. After a decade of pro-tailored awesome keyboards that every signle of my linux-running colleagues adores.

Yes. With a few specific applications tailored for medical or other usage, otherwise it was just like any other tablet of that era – pen was the primary input.

Or getting rid of the pen. You can use resistive screen with fingers although its harder, but there were not many tablets or rather OSs tailored for such usage.

The keyboard for example. And dont get me wrong, the old thinkpad keyboard was great. Thinkpad had its unique great “tough” look. Now look at this:

You can just put the air in between as a catalyst and you’re done. From the side it looks even more ridiculous.

Non-mac PCs are known for extra bells and whistles, in the past the macs were even ridiculed for their uniform and simplistic design. Also you do know that powerbook was the first laptop that looked like this drawing, right?
