Come on, it’s the start screen. You see it once, and you figured it out. I understand visual cues are important, and there aren’t enough of them in Windows 8, but is it really necessary here? Clearly they didn’t think the arrow was necessary from WP7 to see there was more content to the right.

Yeah that worked, thanks. I just enabled the calendar, didn’t need contacts.

No, just email.

Not sure, but it hasn’t worked the last few times I tried on my Lumia 920 (and doesn’t work today).

2. The tiles at the bottom are plenty enough of a cue that there is more stuff toward the bottom.
3. It has minimal impact on usage. I find hitting that row no problem, and even it is for some, it’s only one row. So its usage impact is minimal to none.
4. The status bar is unaffected either way, and toasts aren’t going to have a big impact either. You can easily swipe away toasts if they just happen to appear as you’re going for an app.
5. Subjective.

It’s not perfect. With gmail, you can’t search emails that aren’t on the device. Also, in-line pictures often do not download properly.

I agree, the dead space is a waste.

My girlfriend has had the white Lumia 920 since last November, and I haven’t noticed any coloration problems. She keeps the phone in her purse though… not jeans.

I really don’t like the colored phones, for two reasons…
1. In general, I prefer neutral colors.
2. Bright phones don’t look good with conflicting bright tiles.
But hey, for people who want colored phones… I’m sorry they’re not available.

Great, a hidden menu launched from right clicking a hidden button.

Oh, a few other things:
1. I wish that if you read a message on a different device, it would be marked as read on all devices (not WP specific).
2. Messages that I’ve sent on another device appear out of order on my WP.
3. Can’t confirm this, but I feel like Skype sporadically drains my battery.

I don’t like using it simply because it’s so slow to resume. I primarily use Skype for chatting, and I rarely chat without doing something else at the same time.

Average users don’t like relying on key combinations. Tons of people like to rely on their mouse as much as possible.

I shouldn’t have to slide my mouse down a particular route to get to the start button. In my experience, my cursor often does not get caught in the corners. This is especially true when Windows 8 is in a virtual machine and/or when the monitors are of different sizes.

Doesn’t work well at all in my experience. Sometimes the hot corners are activated, sometimes they’re not. It really doesn’t work at all when Windows 8 is being run in a virtual machine. My cursor doesn’t pause or anything and just ends up on the host machine on the other monitor.

No, that’s not good enough. It’s annoying to have to move my hand to the keyboard every time I want to get to the start screen. Also, you can’t choose to open the start screen on a different monitor with the keyboard button.

I’m sorry, but the hot corners are terrible in multi-monitor setups. I have no issue with the start screen, but I want a button to get to it.

I honestly like the idea of Xbox 720, but they will probably just go with Xbox.

Sure, but most developers will conform to provided templates and official examples. The point here is that those templates lack scalability. Now, is it MS’s responsibility to provide more robust templates and varied design examples? That’s another discussion.
