app selection is a great reason I think. Android tablets could really use extra apps.
and don’t forget the high resolution display.

Everybody has different tolerance. Many said the pentile arrangements on Nexus One and Galaxy S didn’t bother them much but my Galaxy S’s pentile grid annoyed the crap out of me all the time when I read anything dark on white.

That was a surprisingly quick death for Nexus device. Only after 16 months or so. Couldn’t they just lower the price and promote it?

hat’s not to say Sony is opposed to forming alliances going forward: there’s talk of a potential OLED partnership with Panasonic even as the unsuccessful venture with Sharp comes to a close.
If they don’t move really fast, Koreans will decimate them again. It might be already too late.
enforced minimum pricing
Does Sony really have much to offer over other competitors? Unfortunately for Sony, the cheap televisions are getting better all the time and even someone like Vizio can now make pretty decent sets good enough for most.

Unfortunately those things don’t matter that much to the final sales. Samsung had the update fiasco with Behold 2 years ago when they broke their promise but it didn’t negatively affect their sales at all.
At the end what really matters is how much specs you deliver for the high end market and how well you cater to the carriers’ demand so that the distribution channel is always satisfied so that your mid and low range customers have something to buy. Sony doesn’t do either too well.

I also hate seeing Best Buy employees trying to sell me extended warranty plans that I don’t want, but at the same time knowing that those extended warranties make far more money for the company than the actual merchandise, it’s understandable.
Unfortunately that’s the only way Best Buy can compete because the margin on other products often are so low and trying to keep up the offline brick&mortar stores is expensive.

Apple needs to be careful with making the new iPhone display so usefully big that it negates the need for and hurt the sale of the companion iPad and stock price.
The largest smartphone, Galaxy Note, is 1/3 – 1/4 size of iPad in terms of screen size. There is no such thing as “usefully big that it negates the need for (a tablet)” when they have drastically different display sizes and apps differ significantly. That is, if the platform has tablet-optimzed apps.

Yes, but we’re talking about phones that are large enough to “negate the need for a redundant tablet”.
Limited availability hasn’t hurt either Galaxy S2 nor Note. Simply because Samsung cannot make them fast enough to satisfy the domestic Korean demand.

Samsung large display phones, especially the Galaxy Note, negate the need for a redundant, cumbersome and limited use tablet that’s why they sell a ton of phones but not as many tablets.
Galaxy Note sold less than 5 million in a quarter, that represents less than 15% of Samsung’s total sales volume in the last quarter.

The rumor was that you can swipe on that wide home button left and right to perform app switching, as you do with the five finger gesture on the iPad.

Those pre-orders (not confirmed btw) were from online customers AND carriers purchase.
Actually they were all carriers purchase. The original Korean article was pretty clear on that. It’s a classic example where people misunderstand things based on a tl;dr blog post and not bother to read the original article.

But multitouch at that size with a movable hinge should be extremely fun to play with. If there are enough apps, this can be a real hit.
Having said that, I agree with you. There’s no way I’m going to spend nearly $2000 on a 27" all-in-one with that display.

No, Monteiro clearly tried to spin the situation by using that ridiculous switching the phone carrier analogy. That was clearly with regards to The Talk Show.
And that statement from Benjamin makes me want to throw up to be honest.
I don’t know what’s with your issue by trying to make things personal. It’s a simple matter of paying the respect to the audience as a professional. A simple statement like Benjamin’s would’ve cleared up the situation far better than a series of vague links on the blog.

No, you defined high road as something different in the beginning, here’s what you’ve said:
why taking the high road and not saying anything (which all parties do apparently)
If you were wrong about knowing the situation, it’s fine to admit it. Just don’t try to change what you’ve originally claimed and move the discussion to another direction.
Speaking of “broad definition of taking the high road”, something like this would’ve been suffice:

I’m sorry but since when does Monteiro have to take "the high road" when people are calling him names when his claim to fame is calling people names?
Wait, you were the first one who wanted to argue Monteiro was taking “the high road” and now you’re changing the argument? You cannot have it both ways. Monteiro could’ve just stayed quiet. Heck even Gruber isn’t saying all that much on Twitter despite all the hackles.
It’s fine that you want to defend yourself from rude commenters but if you’re doing it in a way that Monteiro is doing by being overly contentious and not understanding the basic point people want to clarified, well, then he’s asking for it and you cannot complain he’s getting the flame when he’s the one asking for it.
