I’m the opposite. I have a ton of stuff in my Pocket queue – it’d take me weeks to clear if I stopped adding stuff to it – to the point where it’s basically useless for news since I’m currently reading articles from late February.
Flipboard’s interface annoys me and I only use it when I’ve run out of things in Google Reader and Currents, which is hardly ever.

Windows Phone has been waiting for the next version since it launched. There’s no reason to have faith in it becoming even the firm global third choice at this point.

If you have multiple apps with the same purpose installed (say, Chrome and Firefox) and you click a link in another app, Android asks you what you want to use to open it, and whether to use it all the time or just this once. You can reset it in the phone’s settings.
The Play Services deal is just that you have to include it, not force people to use it.

Is anyone else seeing a lot more spam to their outlook.com address lately? Either my address finally got on a list, or the spam filters over there got weaker.

Girl at work who lives on Instagram was looking into WP but bailed when she found out there was no official app. If paying to get the apps is what it takes, they’ll more than recoup that investment.

Looks different is good for some people – my guess is more people are turned off than turned on by that, though. Something that looks totally different is something to completely relearn how to use.
I’m talking about a unique “doing” experience, whatever that may be. Being the first camera phone, not the one with the most megapixels.

I agree with your general sentiment, but this is actually a constructive post with good reason.
If both major mobile platforms get their shit together, smartwatches can go mass market. If I was a hardware startup, supporting stuff that only works with Apple would make me very nervous about an iWatch blowing me out of the water. Supporting stuff that only works with Google limits you to a fairly small market of people willing to spend a few hundred bucks on an accessory for their phone.

Inertia.
As good as iOS or Android is OK for the people who are sick of the big two and want to try something different, but you really need to bring something unique to gain ground fast enough, and I don’t think Windows Phone has found that yet.

It’s an investigation based on complaints by Microsoft or one of their multitude of lobbying sockpuppets, not a guilty verdict (although it seems like these things are usually guilty verdicts in the end).
I didn’t like the “browser ballot” decision, and I hope this doesn’t end up the same way.
