That’s for inviting friends, and confirming your phone number. While it’s true those permissions could ALSO be used for SMS integration, at the moment, that’s why those permissions exist.

Actually, Phandroid was the one who got the changelog (I was sent it directly from Glass support). That Bryan guy on Google+ just said, “I got an update, I don’t know what it is.”
