But can you really blame them for pursuing a more private vertical integration? Why is taking Googles services (YouTube) out of the equation a bad thing? Isn’t an ideal home one that you own yourself? The website is owned by Vox Media, the user experience is the same, if not better (more Verge-esque) than YouTube, the ads are pretty much the same (and I would assume a higher percent of revenue goes to The Verge), and the media player is just as reliable as YouTube’s (in my experience).
