There are also updates that do not require a restart. Security updates are not one of those and I assume there are good reasons for that.

Have you read about page on the website you are linking to? You realize that it tests for features that are not yet considered final part of the standard specification?
Ok, now take a knowledge that IE is the most popular browser, by huge margin, in enterprise and that Microsoft can’t give their clients access to features that might change because when intranet portal breaks after update from IE10 to IE11 after the specification changes – they will be blamed. With that in mind, scrap features that are not finalized in this test and see how IE10 compares to the rest.
Also, let’s not forget there are plenty more things required for a high quality browser – speed and performance are one of those essential features and IE does not fail here. I’m glad Chrome supports so many things but I’d like a smooth scrolling first (as in please allow me to scroll the website without dropping frames on my Android phone or tablet – we are talking about mobile browsers just to remind you).

Google Docs viability will be affected badly when:
a) Office Web Apps get full real-time collaboration – which Ballmer promised 2 weeks ago and already has been implemented partially to Web Office PowerPoint,
b) Office 365 / 2013 get same real-time collaboration features – which will inevitably happen,
c) Windows RT with included Office becomes a killer deal for average users when prices become reasonable or even enticing.

Developers can do what they feel will work the best for their apps. If particular UI warrants other color scheme then it should be used.
When it comes to Start Screen it doesn’t warrant other colors but I’d love them to bring vector themes from Windows 8.
As for default apps, there is no need for more than black background – I think they are rare ocassion of function over form in WP. Music and photos apps have assets for backdrops, like album art, and they utilize them in beautiful fashion.
Not to mention those black UIs shine on Amoled screens!

And I thought you really utilize Drive in a unique way that warrants saying it’s better due to having Android devices. Google Keep was launched weeks ago while we had OneNote for years. It has iOS and Android apps so you could easily use it and sync to your platform of choice.

You are right about one thing – it isn’t 1999 anymore. Office has evolved significantly since then and is far ahead of Google Docs and SkyDrive is better and far more popular than Google Drive. Even if you want free you should be using Office Web Apps as there is no single thing Docs does better.
Also, there is no native app for Office yet but Microsoft put effort for their Web Apps to work on iPad and Android tablets while Google at the same time was redirecting Google Maps on WP to WAP version.

Bing team is really smart. Google has been borrowing their ideas since pretty much beginning even though Bing is still the inferior service. It will be very hard for Microsoft but they can push it significantly with next Xbox and Windows if they want – and they probably will by utilizing Kinect search / voice assistant and Bing being built in charms bar.
There is no need to compete with YouTube because there is not a lot of money in YouTube.
Xbox Video + Netflix like subscription should be Microsoft’s focus. I don’t think people want to pay for YouTube. I know I won’t use paid channels and people can put up with only that many ads.

But that’s not the case here. Both PS3 and Xbox 360 are pushing this hardware as much as it is possible. Look for their spec sheets! PS4 will have 8GB of GDDR5 RAM! PS3 has 2x 256 MB (XDR and GDDR3).

You sure about “no one”? Spotify has 6 million users and it’s the most popular streaming service. I don’t know how many subscribers are using Xbox Music but it isn’t a huge number to beat really.

Well, they are the devices and services company for less than a year. In fact, they are still transitioning to this slightly different business model.
All of their services are growing now – SkyDrive, Outlook.com, Office 365 and even Xbox Music and Videos. Some less, some more but it wasn’t the case before they started pushing them like they are now since Windows 8 launch. There are for example 250 million SkyDrive users – 2 times more than Dropbox. I bet many of those came from getting to know SkyDrive via Windows 8 or Office 365 / Office 2013. In recent 7 months they got 50 million new SkyDrive users so their integration and push from other successful products is actually fruitful.
IMO they haven’t been pushing for those consumer specific services enough yet but they will immediately after next Xbox shows up. Xbox Music and Videos will be front and center of the console and Xbox will be pushing sales of Windows Phone due to very tight integration (last E3 they have shown a concept of a RPG game you start on your Xbox and continue on your phone or tablet – grinding XP and levels on the go, in a bus, train or wherever – and everything shows that this is their major idea of what should be the core of next-gen Xbox).
Similarly they had an idea of what should TellMe do (essentially Google Now) few years ago but failed at execution. My bet is they want Kinect 2 to play a major role in that and only then it will be moved to WP and W8.
When it comes to Xbox Music, other than having the biggest streaming catalog and probably launching in more countries this holiday, there are already rumors they will be sponsoring exclusive TV series for Xbox Video. It’s no coincidence those services got rebranded “just before” next Xbox comes to the market.
I use Bing from time to time too and I’ve started seeing many improvements in recent days. Every day there is a new feature or new design element (they are changing the design to Metro). I’m curious if they announce Bing re-branding at Build 2013.
They may have been slow but they have been planning all of that for 3 years, if not more. We will see if they succeed but I have to admit I’ve never seen Microsoft so focused as a whole. For the first time it seems they are all following the same vision.

How many people do you know that don’t use anything from Microsoft? Don’t use neither of those:
- Windows,
- Xbox,
- Internet Explorer,
- Skype,
- Office,
- SkyDrive,
- Hotmail / Outlook.com,
- Bing?
And those are only consumer facing products from them. There is plenty that they can use to make companies switch to Windows Phone or buy Windows 8 tablets / hybrids.

It was never a decision. They said they are working on web, Android and iOS clients when they replaced Zune with Xbox Music. I think they’ll announce those along with Xbox launch.
