The HTC One developer edition doesn’t run stock android. the only difference between it and any other HTC One is it has 64 GB of storage, no carrier bloatware, and an unlocked bootloader.
AOSP based roms have the same current limitations on the One Dev edition as they do on carrier branded HTc One.

The guy at HTC who was all in on Sense on every HTC device for ever, left the company.
Maybe similar to Forstall’s departure from Apple, and Ive taking over IOS Sense can finally be available for those who want it, but also not slapped on every device HTC makes.

I had one for several months.
Only phone I ever owned that had kernel panics. AKA Yellow screen of death.

why not go after google for supposedly violating the patent in the first place?
When Nokia tried to sue HTC because they used the microphone that was supposedly a Nokia exclusive, HTC was not found at fault, the supplier of the microphone was.
And I say it is fear.

you can sue anyone for any reason. Apple is scared to sue Google directly, so they sue Android’s number one OEM.

You misunderstood me. If HTC puts the entire device into the AOSP, then people could make custom SOFTWARE to work with HTC’s hardware. Putting the HTC camera and Boomsound driver software on a phone without the proper hardware won’t mystically make the camera and audio better.

The only thing that scares me about all of this HTC news is lack of competition will transform Samsung being even more Apple-like. Resting on laurels and selling crap in the same of Galaxy.
Yes the S4 is selling by the millions, but it’s getting meh reviews, from the review sources I care about.
HTC has in the past, and is finally again making GOOD hardware, coupled with GOOD software.
My One is probably the best phone I’ve ever owned. Does it have issues? Sure it does, but there is NO SUCH THING as a perfect device.
HTC hopefully sticks around, badly managed companies can turn things round, I just hope it’s not oo late.

Sense USED to suck. Sense 5 is much much better than all that came before it.
Battery life is about the same as any of the other super phones out there 4 hrs screen time, gets thru the day.

HTC needs to enter the One in the AOSP, Boomsound drivers, Ultra Pixel camera and all. In fact, All manufactures should do so.

with a custom kernel, the top half of the htc logo becomes a button. The touch area doesn’t extend to the bottom of the phone, sadly.

not halved, but it is quieter.

I’ve owned an Optimus G and to try to compare the audio between the two is ridiculous The Audio on the One is in a class by itself. My One’s speakers are plenty loud in fact I have the phone set at half volume so the ringer and alarm clock don’t freak people out.

Know what I don’t get. why doesn’t Sense 5 have scrollable wallpaper? It’s been very hard to find nice proper resolution walls for my One.

I bought an OTG adapter and micro SD card reader and can now take my media with me everywhere.
Only downside is I can’t plug in and charge at the same time I am using it.

If buying subsidy from AT&T, LG Optimus G is $100 same internals as a Nexus 4 with LTE and SD card slot, as an added bonus, if you like to tinker, it can be converted to a Nexus 4.
If you’re on AT&T you can trade in an old phone for $100 off and get the HTC One for the same $100

Samsung wants profits, Google was able to negotiate deals with LG and ASUS to bring the cheaper devices to the Play Store. It paid off for everyone, Google sells a lot of Nexus 4s and 7s and LG begins to be recognized as a top tier manufacturer, ASUS gains reputation too.
$650 is the going rate for a Flagship unlocked Cell Phone.
It’s no more expensive than even an unlocked iPhone 5.
What’s funny is, the market this phone is aimed at will just as likely buy the carrier subsidized version and install the Pure Google firmware on it anyway.
Maybe it was Samsung who ordered the bootloader to be locked on their SGS 4 after all.
7 days ago on The HTC One® Developer Edition cost $650 yet the GS4 Google edition is expensive??

It’s the same phone as the US GSM model. I’m sure that ROMS based on the pure 4.2.x will be released for users of the carrier branded GSM phones. Save your money if you’re thinking about buying a device.

That we’d have Smart Phones without Apple. And they’d probably look not much different than they look now because things evolve.

Prediction, Next year’s Galaxy S and Note devices will run a fork of Android, just like Amazon did with the Fire.
