Uhm, I’d say they were pretty relevant with the original EVO. That was one of the premiere Android devices for 6-12 months. Of course, in typical HTC fashion, they followed that up with the EVO 3D.
I’d argue (and would have a lot of reviewers backing me up) that the HTC One is one of the most beautiful phones currently on the market, and possibly the best phone period. The problem is, HTC will follow it up with whatever the next absurd gimmick is (3D, Facebook, etc) and destroy all of their goodwill.
HTC doesn’t have the marketing muscle to go against Samsung. What they need is to stick stock Android on their phones, and make that a talking point for HTC. If they’re relying on word of mouth, they have to do things that will make people talk. The have the most beautiful devices which is a great start, but thing like stock Android, unlocked devices, amazing customer service…that’s the type of stuff that will build you organic marketing momentum. HTC is just missing most of it.
