I really think that Hangouts on Air is going to be a huge new thing for media. I run a monthly web show, and while our production quality is high, it is only possible after a HUGE amount of technical effort in getting it to work. Google is taking a lot of the complication out of that process, and while the end result of a Hangout isn’t quite as high of production value, it is definitely much more accessible to the average person/company.

DingDingDing.
The STS was pushed forward solely because the military found it to be useful for their purposes. NASA essentially lost 30 years on that venture (not totally lost, new technologies still came out of the shuttle, their science ventures are still world-class), and it’s put NASA’s manned space program in serious jeopardy. It’s sort of sad that the success of SpaceX is probably going to be one of the final nails in the coffin of the manned space program for NASA.

A reusable shuttle is just not a practical design for anything other than servicing trips in LEO. If you want to do more “revolutionary” things, then you’re either using a capsule, or you’re building a ship in orbit that will never touch ground. A space plane just isn’t gonna cut it.

Elon Musk has made it very clear that his long-term goal is to use Falcon heavy and Dragon as a means of getting people to Mars. So far he’s delivered on all his other promises…

Here’s an HD version of the stream that I recorded this morning, from T-1:15 to just after solar array deployment. I’m working on uploading the full 45 minute webcast at the moment as well.

I think the major issue (other than the fact that the media industry has bought their own set of copyright laws to work from) is that there is ostensibly no limit to the amount of damages that the RIAA can claim, since they can essentially just create a number for music tracks. They might as well just say that each shared file cost them eleventy-billion dollars, because it would make just as much sense as what they are currently claiming.

Exactly. The moral of the story here is, have so much money that you can pay for your crimes to become legal.

Well, not necessarily. A much wider ratio just means that investors anticipate much higher future earnings. That having been said, I don’t seen any conceivable way that Facebook can perform in a way that would make their current price justifiable. $7-8 might be a bit too low, but I wouldn’t stray much higher than $10 if I were investing and felt good about Facebook’s future. However, I would never invest in Facebook myself, because I think they’re a terrible company that has major ethics issues, and I also see their service as a fad that will rapidly lead them into MySpace territory at some point in the future.

Ditto. Let’s see, I can use a $2 stereo adapter that doesn’t use any additional battery power on my phone and sounds great OR I can pay $30 (guessing) for a $2 adapter that uses extra battery on my phone and sounds essentially the same (I mean, you’re listening to MP3s here, at best).
No thanks; cable is just fine.

Where I grew up, the last drive-in died probably a few years after I was born. When I graduated, I moved and there happened to be a drive-in about 15 minutes from me. I went there more as a whim, just to see what it was like, but I actually enjoyed myself. I think I’ve been to the drive-in 3-4 times as frequently as the actual theater in the last few years. Price is the same, but you get two movies, and you’re supporting a local owner (remember to buy refreshments from them).
