What every book/movie/video game/tv show is the basic story elements: protagonist/antagonist/etc. Where they differ is how the express these elements. A halo show can easily take the core elements of the halo games and express them cinematically rather than through gameplay.

Does he want something?: Yes. To save princess peach.
Does he actively pursue what he wants?: Yes. He travels the worlds to rescue her.
Is there an active protagonist?: Yes. Bowser.
Does the antagonist want something that comes in contrast to what the protagonist wants?: Yes. Browser wants to keep princess peach for himself.
Does the antagonist actively tries to stop the protagonist?: Yes. Browser sends his minions to stop Mario.
