Also, Node.js is an example of an open source project where they’ve made sure it will work with the express versions so that anybody can contribute. Sure, a lot of developers use the full version, but there are some that don’t. There’s no reason to block them out.

Problem is, you used to be able to access this through any educational email address. Now you have to go through your school/college/university, and there are a lot of those (including mine) that don’t subscribe to the service, so I’m left out in the cold.

Or, you know, most open source development. Or students.

shudder please don’t mention VB6. My A-Level computing course still teaches that as the only programming language in the first year.

Lol, he gave you clear evidence that your claim was wrong and then you just say “irrelevant” because of some criteria for this “open source code” that you just made up?

I am certain this is coming. At the very least some sort of “Office Express” with slightly cut down features.

Yeah. God damn it, I hate it when products have extra functionality that I don’t have to use.

Another possible application: outputs like graphics and sound cards which also have a reasonable tolerance for error.

It’s never going to be used for things like operating systems or traditional software, but for processing analogue data inputs like video and sound which already have errors due to their inherent nature, it could be very useful.

Not for the main processing, but I can definitely see it being attached as some sort of companion core of some sort. It depends how many applications there are. A kinect-style accessory could have one built in for processing audio/video.
This sort of hardware could definitely be incredibly useful in more specialized situations. How about using these for web searches in a server farm, using them to parse natural language? There’s a fairly large amount of error in that at the moment anyway, so if we could throw more processing power at the expense of accuracy for the same price, we could see some real improvements.

I don’t see how being more than Netflix is relevant. It has a hell of a lot more content than Netflix.

Because it’s much easier to market “Oooh shiny 3D” than “Oooh better color gamut”.
