Samsung definitely can do it but then again ‘just because I can do something doesn’t mean it will always be a logical move’.
Amazon had a limited market, i,e, the US only, so they didn’t have to deal with a lot of problems in doing so. Samsung, on the other hand will have to first create a replacement of the Google Play Store and seek resources/permission to run it in over 140 countries around the world. The same goes for launching a replacement for Google Maps and Navigation in the same exact number of countries. We can go on.
It just doesn’t seem very logical and plausible to me.

You’re right there. I completely agree but the idea of suddenly forking Android seems implausible to me.
There will be numerous challenges like setting up a replacement of Google Play store in over 140 countries. We’re not even talking about the possibility of sudden replacement of Google Maps and Navigation services here.

It’s about money. When is it about anything else?
Sure it is but Samsung is already making truckloads of money with their smartphones every quarter. I don’t think they would be stupid enough to mess with their success formula and try something they haven’t perfected yet or something that has only half a chance to succeed in the modern highly competitive field.
Creating an ecosystem takes a lot of time and resources. Moreover, success is not always guaranteed so you’re better off sticking with your current ‘winning formula’, if you happen to have one at the moment. :)
The idea of Samsung suddenly forking Android is completely outrageous and implausible as per the current success rate of Samsung. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it is highly implausible.
