Are you sure? If Apple didn’t come out with their own Maps, would Google have ever implemented turn-by-turn directions on iOS? It seemed for a while the Google strategy was to get people on Android by withholding features from their iOS apps. That seems to have been changed since last summer when Google started rolling out much improved (from an iOS pov) versions on iOS. Google needs to go to where the users are; not try to entice users to come to them.
I’m not surprised by this. It is a logical continuation of Gallery 1988’s move into re-imagined movie posters as a business. I believe Mondo really kickstarted that movement.
Caught “Just Like Being There” on Netflix this weekend. While this documentary is predominately about the rise of the rock show posters in the mid/late ‘90s, the last third of the film or so deals with that model applied to movie posters. You’ll find Gallery 1988’s role mentioned and some scenes filmed there. Most of that was under the “Crazy 4 Cult” banner.
