It’s not a privately-funded mission, is it? It’s publicly-funded. We the taxpayers gave SpaceX the parameters of the mission and they built and managed a rocket launch to satisfy their customer, NASA.
SpaceX was a speculative venture built by an entrepreneur so in that sense it’s privately funded but aren’t we paying them for this test mission?

No, that’s not like this at all.
It’d be like someone typing into google “social network” and Google presenting Facebook as one of the top results, but upon review, Google actually removed Facebook and replaced it with G+
