I worked with David Karp (founder and ceo of tumblr) in my 20s, at a place called tekserve. (mac repair shop) He was a nice guy. Quiet. Now he’s worth 200mil. sigh.

i think what he’s saying that shows specifically ~ is that google is there because the installed base of iOS makes it worth it to google, from a data gathering and analytics perspective, to be there.
2 sets of apps, and +90% of the mobile market covered is pretty hard to argue with from a logistics standpoint. Further re-enforcing the fact that they aren’t running a charity, with the added bonus of propping up their platform against (some) of their competitors.

Steve Jobs’ company creates products for which people are willing to pay a premium.
to be fair, this isn’t always true. some examples:
LC (low cost) line of Macs, you probably had in your high school. Many were never sold outside of education, same goes for certain eMacs.
there was also the newton based ebook which was more or less designed for education. Also, the low end ipod line is not what i would call premium. (although it’s not $20 in cvs either)

Still, and this is really just my personal opinion, i think that the influence of Steve Jobs and other CEOs/Legends is vastly overstated. Yes, they might have had the initial idea and founded their respective companies but they are not personally responsible for the success of every single product.
no offense, but this is spoken like someone who wasn’t around the industry back in 1997. People really though apple was going to die. They were in full RIM status, and Steve turned them around from that, to become the goliath they are today. (they fully needed NeXT, obviously as it’s what OS X is based on)

Spend some time with the GS4 camera and how you think about photos and how you shoot will adjust.
i know you tried to cover it up with 2 paragraphs worth of bleh, but you actually just told him he was looking at it wrong.

They don’t bash any individual company or platform. They say what sucks about them. the problem are the people who think any one platform is perfect.
we should all feel bad for those guys. Technology is not a team sport.

that is pure bait, and impressively hypocritical in the first sentence.

i don’t get why that was a response to my comment. It has nothing to do with it. Did you not understand it?
the fact that Huawei and ZTE are there, actually supports my argument:D (really) sigh.

So at least in the US, Apple has a very good strategy because who will get a cheap android when they can get an iPhone for 0$ on contract!
yes, and what does apple have in the US?
nearly 40% marketshare.
that’s my point. in your country, the cheapest (single core 900mhz iphone 4) costs about 450 usd. A android phone of similar specs is much cheaper.
So i don’t view apple as doing that bad. Android is of course, doing better.

I see that the AT&T Note 2 is unlocked, find that, flash the phone and you’ll what you want.
well, that’s not entirely true. Sure i have cm10.1 on my s3, but it took ages to be stable, and only now are they focusing on batter life.
if the note 3 is Qualcomm based as well, (easier for the hackers) with an unlocked bootloader, then i want it. Sucks to not know and possibly waste time.

you can’t make a breakdown like that.
you have to break it down by factors like region, price barriers.

you must be farking kidding me.
In fact Apple has almost an entire range of smartphone (though high-end oriented) covering a wide range of price points, in a disguised manner…
again, this is the on contract price. It’s $450 US for a iphone 4
so no, that can’t compare with cheap android OEM’s in a lot of smaller markets and less developed countries.
in the US don’t they have nearly 40% marketshare?
It’s amazing how differently people on this forum see the same numbers depending on what logo is in their pants.
