Zune wasn’t a good brand. It was tied to a legacy of failure and inability to keep up with iTunes. Zune was derided in the media as something people didn’t want or old people bought – no matter how good the devices were.
Uniting with XBOX does dilute the gaming background of the brand but it creates consumer trust in media content that wasn’t there.

You’re right, they are just phones. It sounds like you’re agreeing with me but not with the lame analogies.

Here’s a lot of things:
2003, iPod 3rd-gen.
2004, iPod 4th-gen.
2005, Mac mini G4
2007, MacBook (White), iPod classic 160GB, iPod shuffle 2G.
2008, MacBook Pro 15.4" (Non-Uni), MacBook (Black), MacBook 13" (Uni), MacBook Air 13" (2007 model), iPod touch 1st 16GB, iPod nano 4G.
2009, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2nd 32GB, MacBook Pro 13".
2010, MacBook Air 11, iPod classic 120GB, iPad 16GB, iPhone 4, new Mac mini, MacBook (White uni.)
2011, iPad 2 16GB, MacBook Pro 15.4 (2011), iMac 27 (2011)
2012, iPhone 4S, iPad 3 16GB.
Excluding hackintoshes. I’ve sold a lot of things from Craigslist, Kijiji, and to family so that I could keep this habit alive.
Over the last couple years though, despite purchasing habits, I’ve gotten over my religious fascination with Apple products. Currently, I own an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, iMac 27, and an iPad.

“iPhone level” probably wouldn’t have come by 2012 but I don’t mean that as a bad thing.
Just that the smartphone market would be very different: I think RIM would have been the leader. They were winning in mindshare, design, ease-of-use, and having BBM in 2006/2007. Palm was already wounded, HTC would of been saddled with WM or a BlackBerry-clone in Android.
BlackBerrys would have become ubiquitous and AT&T/Verizon would never worried about a spectrum crunch.
Nothing would be the same.

Eventually. You’ve got to expect a new version that you’ve got to pay for but right now it works and that’s all that really matters.

For 2011-2012, N9 design language devices are definitely tops. I am still amazed by the Lumia 800.
Follow that with the One S which, I think is slightly ahead of the One X.
Not the biggest fan of the impersonal machine-like look of the iPhone 4S.
Fifth, BlackBerry Bold 9900. BB7 might not be a modern OS but the Bold 9900 exudes class.
As far as devices, like Samsung Galaxy/Focus/Nexus series of devices are concerned: Cheap looking and cheap feeling. (Galaxy Nexus was better but they all felt tacky or hollow.)

Not surprised but disappointed they didn’t make it more premium looking/feeling.
I guess its to keep the costs down so that they can sell a billion of these.

A little underwhelmed by the design and build after looking at HTC One Series.
It’s cool but not having those on-screen buttons is probably my biggest disappointment.

HP is pretty much your best choice in the price range.
Either the Dm1z or G4/t. Both have decent specs and build.
Fits the bill in price, screen size, resolution. (You’re not getting more than 1366×768 with $500.)

While I am a huge Windows Phone fan, the HTC One X seems like the best of the bunch.
The only thing is that you have the Galaxy Nexus which has the better (read: stock) build of Android and a lesser cam. It’ll essentially be the same performant phone.
If longevity isn’t an issue, get the N9. If you want to play with great photos, maybe wait for the PureView 808.

Unless Apple plans on throwing a bag of revolutionary features at iOS 6, it ought to add profiles.
It just makes sense with Apple’s increased focus on business.

I’ve had a pretty bad relationship with Android (Nexus S and Galaxy S) but bit the bullet for a cheap Galaxy Nexus. Nothing wrong with having two phones.
Though, I expect the Windows Phone to remain my daily driver.

There are plenty of hideous phones out there – but don’t lump everything as ugly.
4" isn’t giant, neither is 4.3". It’s only when you get to 4.5" range is becomes awkward.
Second, I understand that you’re an iPhone user but if the Lumia 900 or HTC One X do not look or feel good to you, then you should find a cure for contrarianism.

This year is a critical for me as an Apple consumer, if the new iPhone doesn’t have a new screen will I buy it? Probably, though…
Then… It doesn’t matter what Apple does.
And I’m sure tens of millions of people feel the same way. It just boils down to wishful thinking.
