Ok well I’m obviously not going to win this argument. You clearly know everything about how all blogs, websites and newspapers are run and organized.

I don’t really understand this glorification of traditional print journalism, compared to web based ones. Levels of journalistic integrity vary greatly by organization (traditional or not), but it seems to me like The Verge is quite openly interested in maintaining a fairly high standard. And, when they fail to meet it in some way, are open to amending their publication.
This story is about technology, and the rights of citizens with regard to using that technology. Every regulatory article on The Verge is similar in that respect. Also, it has been stated publicly multiple times by the head editorial staff that The Verge sees itself as a news organization concerned not just with technology as it relates to society at large, not just consumer product reviews…

Gizmodo isn’t anywhere close to The Verge or Engadget…nothing but sensationalist fluff that never gets more in depth (or much longer than) the headline.

An 8 month ban? That seems really odd and arbitrary…there has to be some other/further explanation.
Even more odd is that if it’s so dangerous, why are we allowed to board passenger planes with our laptops, cellphones, iPods, Kindles, etc…? You’d think Homeland Security would be all over that.

Comment
Ew. I don’t know about ripping anyone of, but these “3 column lots of pictures” layouts are really starting to annoy me. It’s fine for pinterest, notcot, etc that are all about catching your eye with graphics, because the graphics are usually the story.
But with news sites, it is a severe detriment to glanceable information. I used to consider Ars the “long form journal-esque” tech news site, kind of like the new yorker of gadgets and science on the web. Now it just looks like every other SEO optomized “look at me! click, click, click!” blog and news site out there.

Apparently every time I try and find a way to pay for things from big media, they get pissed. This relationship isn’t going to work out if only one of us is making an effort.
