TheVerge needs to get one of these and do a side by side comparison with the original S4.
Compare performance, battery life, storage space, etc.

I get that. But what I’m saying is the mental processes that allow one to trip over “post hoc, ergo propter hoc” are similar to the ones allowing people to get better via the placebo effect. In “post hoc…” people strongly believe that the resulting action was caused by the initial action. In placebo, people strongly believe that an action (taking a pill) will result in another action (they get better).

To answer the question, why wouldn’t it? The placebo effect is simply a reification of post hoc ergo propter hoc (“after that, therefore because of that”). This is a common fallacy that even the most intelligent people trip over daily.

When will people start going to jail for this stuff? They need to perp walk these people and make a public spectacle out of ’em.
Make an example of these people the way the Fed wanted to make an example of Aaron Swartz! (Note: I’m not saying Aaron did or did not do anything wrong or anything similar to this, just using an example of how the Fed made a huge deal out of it and needs to do that here.)

We like to lie to ourselves and think we can afford what we’re buying. That’s how we get into trouble with buying too much house, too much car, too much food, too much clothing, too much everything. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do it this way. It’s really a lot of fun. Gives the talking heads something to talk about too. I mean, gotta have something to watch on that TV I cannot afford.

“The two also share a view of Japan as the economic and cultural power of the future, something that has always struck me as an odd piece of historical specificity, as someone who grew up in the ’90s and early ’00s when China was more visible.”
Seriously, everyone (in the USA) in the ‘70s and ’80s was worried about Japan’s growing tech prowess. So the fact that they both shared that is not that big a deal.

I hope CBS does switch to cable only. They (CBS) seem to think that the cable companies need them. Sorry CBS, it’ll be the other way around. You will no longer be in control of distribution of your content (which is the whole argument against Aereo!).

The Verge and other tech sites should knock 2 full points off the review score of any carrier branded phone that comes with a locked boot loader. Surely they care about the reviews they get. So maybe that would shake things up.
