Kinect always listening, always watching.
Kinect required for console to function.
No clear answer to “always-on” question.
No clear answer on used games.
No direction on how sharing games would/should work.
TV functions require IR blasters.
Nothing announced to stop the exodus of indie devs.
etc.
That train wreck of a conference. Also, did you notice they didn’t disclose the CPU or GPU? Yeah…

Hours of my life with Nintendoland and Rayman Challenges App say you won’t regret it.

The problem is not that the Wii U isn’t special, because it’s extremely special. The problem is that it’s significantly more challenging to sell what makes the Wii U special to customers.
With the Wii, people saw the Wiimote and people flailing their arms around and they instantly knew what it was about and that it was fun. Now, they see this tablet thing, and people have screens everywhere, and they don’t care. (I stole this idea, fyi, but can’t remember the source.)
But play Rayman Origins Challenges App or Nintendoland or Scribblenauts and you will immediately understand how special the Wii U is. Unfortunately, Nintendo needs some killer games and a way to communicate its benefits to customers.

I’m shocked how many people don’t get this.

Yeah, I think it’s pretty ridiculous. Like, just this morning I was on outlook.com, using my calendar to access my Google contacts and create Google calendar events that I could share with other Google users.
I mean, seriously Microsoft, when are you going to start interoperating?!

I love how “3-4% of the U.S. smartphone market” is laughed at. Back when Windows 95 dominated the home, Apple held about that or a little more in the PC market share.
That represents about 4.5million users. Or about a quarter to half as many Macintosh OSX computers are sold every year. Or about double the sales of “Tomb Raider” over three consoles and PC.
Whatever your personal opinion of WP8, neglecting a potential 4.5 million users is stupid. Which is why most developers have released apps for WP8.

I thought a touchscreen laptop would be stupid. It’s not. It’s the opposite of stupid. It’s awesome.
And it makes me appreciate Windows 8.

Don’t forget the terrible OEMs.
Half of the Microsoft OEMs produced horrible, ugly, cheap pieces of garbage or over-designed, bizarre oddities. I believe there’s a LOT of scapegoating happening by the industry. It’s easier to say, “Microsoft made a bad OS!” to your investors than “our computers are plasticky garbage that no one wants to buy.”

Who said “always on” meant the console had to be connected to the internet to play games for DRM purposes?
