3 postsJust a guy living in Portland, OR that has finally gotten a Nexus 4... which turned out to be defective and then had it replaced with another Nexus 4... which was also defective, and is waiting for Google to remove the $349.99 pending charge from the first return in order to send back the second and get a third Nexus 4... Still love the device.

Did people just forget that Google is the third most valuable company in the world? Do people get that the government doesn’t just inspect every new device to see if it’s an invasion of privacy or some other, real or perceived, constitutional right?

And there go all of my dreams for Babel… I’ll try this out but it will be near impossible for me to get friends to use it, as none of them use Google+ and most of them have iPhones. Please do better next time.

Probably not, I’m fairy sure there are laws against that sort of payment system, but I’m sure your more likely to get a raise if you’re more efficient, so it’s similar.

I can’t wait for babel. I don’t think it will do everything I wish something like babel could do for Android and iOS, solely because of restrictrions on iOS that wouldn’t allow another app to take over SMS, but it seems like it’s going to be great. 800 emoji, though? I just want the standard number of emoji. There’s already more than I would ever use, I don’t need 800.

This isn’t necessarily specifically related to Neuromancer, but it is definitely relevant. I think that something entirely beautiful about written stories, of whatever format, is that the vast majority of the world, setting, and visuals can be made to be imagined by the reader. While it may not be all that interesting of a fact on its own, and one that has been addressed so many times it seems not worth thinking about, what really intrigues me is that the Chiba city that I know and have seen in my mind, hyper futuristic, beautiful in its filthiness, and designed in just the way I would love the future to be, is completely different from the one that people who read it in 1984 saw. The adaptability of a novel speaks greatly to the skill of the writer, and the fact that I, 17 years old and living in 2013, am able to read it and still see a completely realistic and wonderful cyberpunk future says more for the skill of William Gibson than I could ever write with my own words.

I don’t see how automatically running the sewer, electrical, and water systems through the roads is an oversimplification. It is definitely simplified but the idea of begging to have to lay out a sewer system, then a water system, and then a electrical system for an entire city just seems like insanity to me.
On the other hand I can definitely see an argument for larger city sizes. They’ve said that the main reason they made the size limit what it is was because of the limitations of the Glass Box engine, but hopefully they are working on expanding its capabilities as, besides server issues, the size limit is probably the biggest flaw of the game.

Oh yes, I have so much to gain from writing a horribly long and boring anecdote about receiving three defective Nexus 4s… I am one of the few people that actually believes different devices are for different people and there may not be one “best” device in any given category. I would recommend an iPhone 5 to the majority of friends looking for a new phone just because they want a phone that works with no fuss and the iPhone is perfect for that. I fancy myself a bit of a technophile and the Nexus 4 seemed like an ideal device for me, but I have either been very unlucky or there are just a large number of defective Nexus 4s produced. Given the unlikelihood of this sort of event happening to one person it makes more sense to assume that there are a lot of defective Nexus 4s produced, which isn’t to say that it’s a bad device, I love it, but just that it has some manufacturing issues with LG.

Yeah, it’s slipperiness is something to behold. I left it on the arm of my couch, which has only a very slight arc, and went to get some iced coffee. I came back, about 30 seconds later, to find it on the verge of falling off the arm of the couch and onto the ground. Now I don’t let the thing out of my site for fear that it will run away and join a circus.
