I have used it. Obviously we hold different things in high regard.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Flipboard is all about form. If you’re wowed by a pretty interface, then I guess you’re going to think it’s great; if not, then you’ll be underwhelmed.
Paper is pretty and it’s color palette is guaranteed not to clash, so that’s great, but it’s ultimately an exercise in form. We need exercises in form, but they typically don’t bring anything exciting in terms of function, which makes them less than exciting for me. They’re like toys, or maybe trinkets. ((an aside) a brilliant exercise in pure form is Windosill )

They’re both (Currents and Flipboard) worthless in my estimation. I’m not sure why anyone would want, or need such a thing. I downloaded Flipboard the day I got my ipad3 and was completely underwhelmed. Seems a lot of the “must have apps” for iOS are bollocks, Paper = meh, flipboard = meh, instagram = meh. Just a whole lot of hot air. That’s not to say there aren’t some great apps only available for that platform… Animoog is utterly brilliant, for instance.

Who are these “design principles” of whom you speak? They work for Apple, right?
