Yep, no app required for WiFi calls. As long as you’re connected to a wifi network when you place/receive the call you won’t be using your minutes.

Doesn’t even come close to the $30 100 minute+WiFi calling/unlimited text/5GB of 4G LTE data/free tethering plan on T-Mobile.

It comes back on its own as long as you didn’t go into settings and disable the card completely. Give it a few minutes and it’ll show up again.

There is no way in hell you can tell me that you can execute commands to google now in multiple different ways of expressing and it works every time.

Don’t know where you’re hearing it flat sucks. I own The One, and its camera has better low light/indoor image capturing than any phone camera in existence save for maybe the Lumia 920. The normal/outdoor shots are on par with just about anything else, but it does tend to overexpose shots at times due to the larger megapixels capturing more light.

For the last time, YOUR GPS IS NOT ACTIVE ALL THE TIME! I use a weather app called Dark Skies that does the same thing with my WiFi iPad, which doesn’t even have a GPS radio in it, and my battery life is still 10+ hours on it. How am I using Google Now on this very same GPS-less iPad if Google Now requires your GPS to be turned on all the time?

Your tinfoil hat is on a little too tight, sir. They’re on by default in Android devices too, have been for years. Furthermore, when setting up your device for the first time you’re given the option to turn on/off whatever location services you want.
I don’t see why this is such shocking news to everyone. They’re turned on by default in Google Now because that’s exactly how it works: using your location to feed you travel and traffic information. How else can it tell you this without your location? If they were off, then half of what Google Now claims to do wouldn’t even work properly out of the box.

Your battery won’t be measurably affected. It’s not using your device’s GPS. I’ve been using Google Now on my Android phones since it was first released and never noticed a drop in battery life.

And fragment Google Now as a service on Android? Hellz naw, they won’t let that happen. You’d then have two versions of Google Now, one that’s baked into Android and one that’s just an app like iOS that doesn’t have the core notification functions.
Google is NOT alienating its own platform. Jelly Bean’s code, including Google Now, has been available for OEMs to implement into their devices for an entire year now. It is not Google’s responsibility to hold everyone’s hand and make sure 4.1+ is being implemented in a timely manner. Now was available for Google’s Nexus devices less than a month after it was announced, and at the end of the day those are the only devices they can control. If you want to blame somebody for letting Android devices slip behind then blame the OEMs and (especially) blame the carriers, the latter of which purposefully sit on updates for older Android devices to push customers into buying newer phones.
