I agree that there is a degree of myopia for insiders. I spend a lot of time using Twitter but a lot of my friends — people who don’t write about tech for a living — really don’t. However, they DO use Facebook fairly voraciously and there’s no denying that Facebook in particular is a powerhouse of data collection that is reaching the vast majority of the American mainstream.

By the media? The point of my question was that media should not, in my opinion, fawn over CEOs. It’s not only a clear indication of bias, it’s simply a bit weird!

Also, they’re not really demanding that people leave the internet. They’re counseling people to use it wisely, and according to the tenants of their religion. It seems extreme to me, but it’s a fairly measured form of extremity as far as I can tell.

No of course, I oversimplified for the sake of brevity — but I think Keen’s point is that the tradeoff is very unfair. I think I probably agree with him for the most part.
