I am a 20 year old Computer Games Programming Student in my 3rd year of 4 of study. My main interests are in Java, C# and C++. I have recently started learning some basic web design and also dived into Android development, and hope to expand greatly on both of these in the next year. During my 3rd year of study I am required to undertake a placement. I am currently working for the EUI in Florence, Italy until July 2012.

I don’t think he was trolling really, he just wanted to know if, in Vlad’s opinion, he should wait to see what Apple have to offer. Its no worse than me saying when the One X came out that I would wait to see what the S3 had to offer before deciding.
Don’t take me wrong, not having a dig at you, I just don’t want to start unreasonable troll cries, its not nice to be misinterpreted!

Would you say the quality of the software outweighs the screen quality issue?
In terms of watching 1080 video on the S3/One X, is the difference in quality outrageously noticeable?

I still can’t make up my mind with this phone… If it had the same screen quality as the One X I would snap it up in a heartbeat

Riiiiight, I’m sure he was fully behind a bigger screen design. Just like in 5 years time there will be leaks about how Jobs imagined the devices way in advance and put forward the idea’s for the products of the future way back in the past.
Even if its true it just seems like a cheap way of convincing users to want a bigger screen.

Thats really weak… Sooner or later carriers are going to have to wake up and dedicate to providing a timely update schedule and not palm the blame on Google

Google around there are plenty of articles about it being plastic.
Such as this one
We mentioned earlier Samsung’s use of plastics and this has extended to the Galaxy S3. The problem here, however, is that unlike HTC, Samsung hasn’t opted for a high-quality matte finish plastic. The bodywork has a very tacky and cheap feel, it’s extremely shiny despite its brushed texture and shows up finger prints quite a lot.

Yeah, I mean actually if your going to use crappy plastic, atleast have the decency to call it what it is. I don’t want to hear this Hyperglaze bull!

A lot of the annoyance is from the shabby design really.

My samsung has never offered it automatically, nor has any S2 I have ever used. Not sure about HTC or the likes.

A real problem is the average user will not even bother to check for updates on their phone. Obviously the main issue is the slow roll-out period. Its also kind of terrible that the next Android will be out soon enough. Its a shame that to get the best Android experience you have to root, but that’s always going to be the case really so long as they are carrier dependent, its the price you pay for it being OSP, the carriers only want to flog their version of the OS.

I agree for the most case, especially regarding icons. But then, similarities only cause outcry of IP infringement.
You can actually turn the gmail icons off and back to text (via this method) but I would prefer icon/small text option to be implemented as you also suggested (without the need of an add-on preferably)

Or power up the phone with the power and both volume keys held down, should give you an option in the bootloader to recover. Pretty sure it does the same thing though

Download a benchmark tool and marvel at how much higher your phone ranks, then show it off to your friends. I mean really there are not many apps that utilize it properly that I know of unfortunately. Heres hoping soon though!

Yeah, not to be picky but the image of the Galaxy S is total bull. They obviously look similar, I am not denying that. But that is scaled down and you are showing the App drawer and not the Android homescreen.
