Everyone says this but keeps forgetting the GS4 always has the highest specs. Most RAM, SD slot, removable battery.
They get so many customers because of a few key design decisions like the ones mentioned above. The marketing does but so does word of mouth.

you could either use a STB like the boxee.tv which receives OTA signal which would work. OR Microsoft might be making an antenna accessory or something along those lines. Here is a clip from a GameStop FAQ.
“Q: Do I need to have a specific cable or satellite TV provider to watch live TV on Xbox One?
A: Our goal is to enable live TV through Xbox One in every way that it is delivered throughout the world, whether that’s television service providers, over the air or over the Internet, or HDMI-in via a set top box (as is the case with many providers in the US). The delivery of TV is complex and we are working through the many technologies and policies around the world to make live TV available where Xbox One is available.”

I think Nilay is kind of missing the point of why Microsoft chose this approach and why it is a great idea. They don’t necessarily have the same goal as Google TV. Google TV wanted to make finding programming easier and searching easier for TV. Microsoft wants to make it easier for you to use your xbox and watch TV.
A typical use case scenario for me and I imagine lots of xbox owners is.
Turn on the xbox, think about playing a game or watching a movie. After browsing for a little bit I decide, meh, I actually just want to sit back and watch some TV. I currently then have to switch inputs, switch remotes, and then watch TV. Sometimes I do this even when waiting on matchmaking.
Switching inputs back and forth is annoying and all that switching time adds up. Microsoft even touches on this during the announcement. They want to make switching between xbox and tv more effortless and eliminate the annoying task of changing inputs, looking for the remote, and changing remotes. Like Nilay has always said there is a battle for HDMI 1 on every TV. Microsoft can now be there.
So while Google and Microsoft might still be using HDMI pass-through, I-R blasters, and use much of the same tech, the reasoning is much different.

You could use it with an Ota box like the boxes.tv probably. Or a windows pc with media center. I did the same thing with Google tv

I never heard Nilay or anyone else acknowledge their incorrect Zune streaming statements. I couldn’t believe that podcast, so much incorrect information and he even talked about his Zune HD like that gave him some kind of credibility. It made me cringe. I felt embarrassed for them. It was like I was watching a Ben Stiller movie

You just won’t get it into your head. The idea you are proposing is impossible right now because youtube refused to give MS access to the API so MS can properly comply with youtubes T&C.
It is like the NFL having a rule that only certain helmets can be used while playing football and only selling those helmets to one team. So the other teams can either not play or they can use helmets that don’t comply with the rules.

Are you not listening or understanding? Microsoft has had a youtube application for a long time ready to release. THEY TRIED TO ACQUIRE THE PROPER API FROM GOOGLE. Google would not give them access. Microsoft created its youtube app much like Apple created its iphone youtube app. Google gave Apple the proper API access needed to not violate the T&Cs. Google will not do the same for Microsoft. So MS finally got fed up and said, fine, won’t give us the API access we need to comply with your T&Cs than we will just release the app anyways, which will cause Google to either block the app and open up discussions on how to have a proper app or leave the app alone.

Lots of sites also run amazingly well on the Lumia 920. I have always found The Verge mobile site to work well. Here is a video I made comparing the performance of The Verge’s new video hub on my Lumia 920 and Nexus 4.

Do the tabs reload when you come back to them? That’s one of the things I love most about wp. Tabs never reload unless the phone has been turned off.

I love the design of this video hub!
It performs like butter on my Lumia 920, panning and scrolling is super fast and fluid, almost like a native app.
Just as an experiment I also tested this on my Nexus 4 using Chrome and Browser, slightly different results. Will post a video later!

Will The Verge please start to understand that normal people don’t reply to email threads 20 replies long with 10 different people participating in the thread? I would bet this is a problem for less than 1% of smartphone users

I like having the true multitasking of the desktop on RT. Just leave the desktop as an “app” its nice to have the desktop for YouTube videos and other things you want to keep running in the background regardless what you are doing.
Or make it so you have to enter a special combo of characters to enable desktop. That way stupid people can stay out of desktop and people that have brains that can comprehend why its there can enter a “cheat code” to enable desktop, or simply make “enable desktop” an option in settings. Steve Jobs and apple are/were great at taking away functionality that might confuse people.

Yeah but for me the cheapest tablet I can see is $339 and I can’t seem to stack the coupons. Tried the $375 and $100 off coupon with the 20% off but it wouldn’t work. Did it work for you Fuhrer D?
